'My brother died for oil'

By Paul Waugh, Valentine Low and Jason Beattie in Brussels, Evening Standard
5 November 2004

The brother of a Black Watch soldier killed in Iraq said today that he had died in a war over "money and oil".

Craig Lowe, 18, a serving soldier with the regiment, added: "I think they should just get them all out of there now, because if not we are going to lose a lot more than this." .............

Craig said his brother had thought little of George Bush and what he believed were the President's reasons for going to war.

He added: "He just thought he was an arsehole for starting a war over nothing, trying to get money and oil. That's what we thought ourselves, that's what Paul thought as well, we all thought that."

May the Great Spirit/One-Energy bring comfort to the families of the deceased. May those who were killed in this immoral war rest in peace.

6. A stiff prick never has no conscience.
'Tis beyond my wildest comprehension and imagination why Blair and junior are still in office.

The intellectual power of the people was to decide wisely who was gonna lead this country. And George W. Bush was their pick......God help them!

3. We did the best we could.
It will be on the shoulders of more rational countries to end this fight for us.

4. bush and blair are so high up they can barely SEE us down below
And when they ever bother to cast a glance our way, we look like ants scurrying around, trying to keep our lives together, trying to survive, just get by the best we can.

Remember what little boys do to ant hills? There you go.

5. I was wondering how this was going to play in Fife.
What the paper couldn't print would be real interesting to hear.

7. "an arsehole for starting a war over nothing, trying to get money & oil".
This story was on the front page of the London Evening Standard and the interview on UK prime time news, 5.30pm-8pm and after 10pm.

Only one station, Channel 4 News, actually showed the full interview with the soldier's opinion about "an arsehole.......money & oil".

No comment from the interviewer but the overall theme of news coverage was very positive.

Hope the squaddie doesn't get court-martialled.
