US scales back troops in Falluja

The United States military has scaled back troop numbers in the western Iraqi town of Falluja.

The US military denies the move is a response to ongoing attacks by Iraqi guerrilla fighters.

The situation in the Muslim town has been tense since US soldiers shot dead at least 16 demonstrators in late April.

All but half a dozen of the 4,000 US soldiers posted to Falluja will remain there.

Taking over control of security will be the newly recruited Iraqi police force, which has also been targeted by resistance fighters since the fall of Saddam Hussein.

2. The article doesn't mention
that the Falluja police demanded that the troops leave a couple days ago.

5. Hence, I must agree with #4: We ARE retreating.
This flies totally in the face of what the US commander on the scene was saying, along the lines of, "They have the right to protest now, but it doesn't matter what they think, we're staying right here in full."

Stunning really

All but 6 of 4000 American troops are pulling out? If so, God help those six men!
