Hunter S. Thompson: Soured on the sweet science

"...The Bush family reeks of fraud and bad karma. But even worse than our wretched, gibbling president are the cowardly whores in Hollywood who are currently smearing film stars and music people like Johnny Depp by calling them unpatriotic Americans who righteously question the wisdom of invading a whole nation of Islam -- 1.8 billion worshipers -- which is a dangerously stupid idea. Disagreeing with Donald Rumsfeld about bombing anybody who gets in our way is not a crime in this country. It is a wise and honorable idea that George Washington and Benjamin Franklin risked their lives for. These thieves in the White House are so crazy with greed and power, and they are causing so much drastic damage to the world we live in, that they are the ones who should be put on trial for treason...."

1. good advice from the good doctor...
"Beware of War Mongers. They don't give a hoot in hell if you live or die. They are in this racket strictly for themselves. Mahalo."

Reading 'Kingdom of Fear' right now. As always, Hunter hits the nail on the head, without holding back.

here's a link if anyone is having trouble with the one provided.

4. well, damn, i'm sorry i missed this fight
I would hardly put Shane Mosley on a par with the B.F.E.E. I saw the first de la Hoya vs. Mosley fight, and though it was close, I felt that the fight was definitely Mosley's, and I saw no reason to disbelieve that he could beat de la Hoya again. Why would anyone throw the fight for Mosley with de la Hoya threatening to quit boxing if he doesn't win? There would be more economic reasons to throw the fight for de la Hoya if for anyone, wouldn't there? Also, after the fight, Mosley said he would fight de la Hoya again, whereas de la Hoya said he wouldn't fight Mosley again. To me, that says that Mosley is more confident against de la Hoya than vice versa.

Caveat: I am not the most advanced boxing fan out there, not by a long shot, so quite likely there is something I'm missing here. It just gets my goat that every time he loses a damn fight, de la Hoya blames the judges. He did the same with Trinidad. I saw that fight, and de la Hoya was tired at the end. He was just plain out-boxed in this observer's opinion. It makes him seem a bit sore-loserish.
