Republicans are the new progressives
BY DAVID GELERNTER
David Gelernter is a professor of computer science at Yale and a contributing editor to the Weekly Standard. This is from the Los Angeles Times.

April 27, 2005

Sen. Charles Schumer announced recently that he is worried about the "hard, hard right" of the Republican Party, people whose goal is to turn "the clock back to the 1930s or the 1890s." I've never met one myself.

There is no such Republican in the president's Cabinet, none in the Senate, and Schumer, a New York Democrat, is talking nonsense. He wants to conceal the Big Switch that has transformed American politics.

Today the Democrats are the party of reactionary liberalism.

Republicans are the true progressives.

Yet, if Schumer is mostly wrong, he is also unintentionally revealing. He seems to believe that "hard-right" Republicans pine for the 1930s - when statesmen like FDR and his disciples dominated the scene. He's right: Many Republicans do admire FDR. Republicans, after all, are his spiritual heirs.

This is a steaming pile from republican fantasy land. The republicans are the new party of corporate favor and corruption. Corporations and lobbyists tell them to jump and they ask how high.

4. Bwaaaahahahaha!! Funny stuff.
I suppose it's progressive to systematiclly weaken the Bill of Rights, launch unjustified wars, fight against universal health care, trample on worker rights, and allow Enron to develop national energy policy.

Funny stuff indeed from the kool-aid factory.

6. would this guy have wanted the Alabama state legislature
or the good people of Alabama to vote on African-American civil rights back in the 50s and 60s and not let the courts rule on the constitutionality of the laws that they passed

7. Weekly Standard is for fools. They are so busy drinking their own

**** they think they have taken over the world. The whole point of the "Bush/Iraq" exercises is the break the back of Liberals and then rush in a pick up the pieces.

They are delusional.

As delusional as the little group of neo-nazis who on speech day at my high-school had one of theirs get up and make a speech. Three others placed themselves strategically in the auditorium. And when their guys was making the speech - they stood up and started to hail Hitler.

They assumed everyone else would follow.

The WWII War Veterans (teachers) in the audience jumped up and dragged them all away. Don't know if they got expelled. Who would have noticed anyway.. nobody cared about them and their deluded greatness. Which is why they ended up drinking their own piss. Everyone else just sat there and laughed nervously at the delusions of these losers. And yelled obscenities at them. And watched them be dragged away by their ears.

Weekly Standard no different.

Adolescents, piss drinkers & Hitler lovers. One and all.

Openly right-wing commentators and opinion pieces don't need additional publicity from DU's direction.
