Taking the Bob Out of Bob Jones U.
Edited on Thu May-05-05 08:29 AM by MountainLaurel
An interesting little profile of this joint, useful in a "Know Thy Enemy" sense:

Is Bob Jones University going to the Devil?

Could America's most famous bastion of hard-core Christian fundamentalism and pugnacious political conservatism be getting a little . . . soft? There are signs, portents.

In 2000, Bob Jones III, president of the university and grandson of the Founder, announced on "Larry King Live" that the school was ending its ban on interracial dating, long defended because "God has separated people for His own purpose."

In 2003, the school ended the practice of ringing the dorm bells at 6:55 a.m. to rouse students for daily room inspections.

2. Thanks for the article and link
brought up a bunch of old memories. I attended BJ Academy and started University in the 60's, when Dr. Bob Sr and Jr were firing up the pulpit. Bobby III married and had one child. One November day I walked off campus (unsupervised), kept going, never looked back, and never been back. Spent too many years in therapy over my experience with the dogma of BJ - however the 'good news', so to speak, is that my experience at the Academy and University is the impetus and backbone of my very liberal democrat views.

;)
