Tim Chitwood takes on a reader

There is a writer for the local paper by the name to Tim Chitwood. Today, he had a letter from a reader that was attacking. I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right forum. But I thought that I would share is with everyone here.

<snip>

response to an April 10 column on the difference between intelligent design and Biblical creationism:
Dear Mr. Chitwood,
Your article regarding evolution is quite typical of others who deride creationism, the Bible and God. Therefore I am not surprised at the quotes and the use of certain websites to support your conclusions.
You did leave out some important facts. Number one is that evolution (actually part of naturalism) is a philosophy (and for some people a religion) first and foremost. Do your homework. The philosophy of Rousseau, Comte, Hegel and Marx gave birth to evolution (naturalism). Darwin acknowledged the non-science in his "suppositions"... .

<snip>

And his answer...

Dear J:
It's obvious who expects people to bow and accept whatever follows as gospel.
I rely on the highest standards set by other professionals in their fields, so it's pretty simple:
When a creationist gets a Nobel Prize for debunking evolution or scientifically proving the existence of a deity -- either a remarkable achievement -- then maybe all the major universities will alter their methods and curricula.
Until then, we prepare students to pass science courses at major universities

I have the feeling that he is going to get some heat for this and I thought some of ya'll might want to write in a letter of support. I hope no one minds me posting this. Thanks.

2. Of course Darwin did not consider evolution
to be scientifically based - it was only a hypothesis at the time with very limited empirical evidence. He was making an extraordinary claim.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Today, we have that kind of evidence to back us up and evolution is a great deal more than a simple hypothesis.

The creationists have yet to back up their extraordinary claims with extraordinary evidence. If so, then they would have won a Nobel prize as the guy said!
