Not God's problem


I was quite alarmed to read the May 17 letter from Marlene Lott ("Fighting for Values"), proclaiming that "God is not tolerant!" and that the sky will fall the moment we allow same-sex partners to marry.

Ms. Lott seems to have spoken directly with God, which has me wondering if God has had the time to maintain His divine guidance of George W. Bush. Bush's approval numbers are down, and if God is wasting His time cozying with Ms. Lott, He needs to get back to work if He's going to salvage Bush's legacy.

Opponents have failed miserably to explain how allowing gays to marry is going to destroy our society, but it seems that the popularity of and easy access to divorce has done a pretty fair job of that already.

2. For some reason

this reminds me of a joke that was making the rounds in the 80's.

God called St. Peter into the office and dressed him down for helping Ronald Reagan become president of the US. "What in the world were you thinking, putting that hack actor into one of the most important jobs in the universe? I ought to demote you to harp stringer, junior grade for this stunt".

St. Peter mumbled "but I just did what you told me"

Outraged, God shouted "I told you to get him into CASABLANCA".
