Stephen Harper's neo-conservatism
http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_zolf/20060626.html

Stephen Harper's conservatism is new to Canadian politics. It is really a neo-conservative, social conservative government which, unlike any other Tory government, has peculiar rules it plays by.

Above anything else, Harper believes that the state is inherently evil and cannot be trusted with anything.

In Harper's Tory land, the state has no role to play in climate change or controlling long guns, and has no right to intervene in the economy.

He loathes Keynesian economics, and believes the ideal state is by definition a non-socialist society.

2. To make matters worse he is a control freak who never changes his mind.

I saw a piece last night on CPAC about him. It was his associates and friends discussing him. They were trying to convince Canadians of what a great guy he is. They all painted a picture of a controlling, know-it-all who never admits he's wrong. Their take on this was that it makes for a great leader. One who is strong and decisive. If given a majority, he has every intention, I believe, of making Canada over in his neocon image, unless something happens to derail his plans.

3. Canada had a neocon in Mike Harper... Premier of Ontario. And crisis
after crisis did he cause.

Neocons love the social shock of social engineering. So do sociopaths.

4. Don't you mean Mike Harris?

He was also (along with Mulroney) an advisor to Harper before the last election.

5. I remember Harris being called "The Newt of the North." Yuck

He pulled a ton of money out of Toronto and put it - and hospitals and services - out into the suburbs where they were more difficult to get to.

And TTC is STILL recovering from being starved.

6. Yes .. Sorry... slip. Of course it was Mike Harris. So far we have not
seen massive social engineering and imposed crisis cause of Harper. Execpt for a few small events. But they are a minority.. so best behaviour.
