Cheney-Bush: The Absence of Morality
by Dr. Gerry Lower

One simply cannot overstate the extent to which an incompetent and corrupt Bush administration has failed under the neoconservative world view of Dick Cheney. It has failed not only on the domestic and international fronts, it has also failed in its "war on terrorism" by virtue of immoral actions that have actually encouraged and increased terrorism in the Middle East (1).

One of the more amazing aspects of Cheney's dominion is that he has been able to motivate and manipulate George W. Bush in such a way that Bush actually believes that he himself is "the decider." Because of his limited knowledge base, Bush has had little choice but to accept Cheney's neoconservative world view and act on those views as if his own. Bush now has little choice but to maintain a similarly infallible stance, the only stance left in the face of Cheney's many failures.

More than anything, it is the sheer incompetence and the utter absence of morality which defines the Cheney-Bush administration. America's leadership in the world has never been as pristine and pure as preached on the American home front, but Cheney's neoconservative policy-making has done more than any policy-making to discredit what little goodwill America still maintains in the world.

Just how deep is the moral pit into which Dick Cheney has led Bush in the name of the American people and American democracy? It is as deep a moral pit as can be hollowed out by human thought and action. It is a moral abyss to which the Bush administration must remain self-righteously blind or the entire Cheney program would fall apart from the inside out. Given Cheney's self-proclaimed infallibility, the program can only be stopped from the outside in via impeachment by the people (2).

We are constantly reminded that morality and moral standards are very complex issues, especially from the perspective of the rich and powerful who are largely responsible for the currently corrupt state of affairs, those who want indefensible wealth and control over others without accountability. From the human perspective, however, moral standards are really not all that complex. In the west, we have three standards which comprise the western moral hierarchy.

1. Excellent read and THANK YOU
Sis. I was thinking this morning as I was bench pressing my pecs to diamond hard sharpness and listening to NPR that I didn't need a newspaper. All I had to do was check out DU and that wonderful Babylon Sister will provide me with what's important to know. You are a treasure.
