Diabetic Man Missing After Being Kicked Off Train
http://www.kpho.com/news/13586605/detail.html

A 65-year-old St. Louis man is missing after Amtrak personnel, mistaking his diabetic shock for drunk and disorderly behavior, kicked him off a train in the middle of a national forest, according to police in Williams, Ariz.

Police said Roosevelt Sims was headed to Los Angeles but was asked to leave the train shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday at a railroad crossing five miles outside Williams.

"He was let off in the middle of a national forest, which is about 800,000 acres of beautiful pine trees," Lt. Mike Graham said.

Police said there is no train station or running water at the crossing, which is about two miles from the nearest road, at an elevation of about 8,000 feet.

:wtf:

2. If this man is dead, charges should be brought against those responisble...
...even IF the man was drunk, to let him off in the middle of nowhere is criminal negligence at best.:grr:

3. not again!
What the hell is with this recent flurry of people with disabilities being put in harm's way? There have been several diabetics arrested and jailed for being disorderly, there's the mentally disabled citizen who was deported, and now this.... I know there are other events that I am neglecting. I am sick of the rationalization that security takes precedent over being human. Heads need to roll and America needs to reclaim its humanity.

4. Zero tollernece
Working folks don't feel that they have to put up with people acting human. Even if their job is dealing with humans. The people are not to disturb them while they do their jobs.

Security is the excuse that makes the person feel he/she is right in doing what they do.

It's a strange world we live in now. The more people a person has to deal with daily, the less tolerent they become. It's just a job.

When a person has a job where others are suppose to 'listen' or 'follow orders' or act totally meek, persons don't doing these things really pisses them off.

I've noticed some of that type of behavior in the School system here in Florida. I'm not talking about Teachers. Tho some of them are included in what I'm saying. For the most part, it starts with Administration and counslors who don't have the time to deal with the students. 500+ students to one counslor, how can such a person do their job with any reasonable reality and NOT become an "uncarring B" of some sort to at least SOME, if not all their charges. Their frustrations roll down hill. Teachers get it from the students, who in turn also start dishing it out. Why not? The Students don't seem to care.

Respect for our fellow man is gone. Feeling responsible for our own actions is gone. Now days people think that they are only responsible, if they were directly responsible. This person who kicked this guy off... Sad to say, but most likely they will still feel justified for their actions. He/she followed the code book (I'm assuming) and now days it does say you can kick people off who are bothersome. It doesn't say they are suppose to take time to investigate the causes. They are not told to do this or encouraged to do this. IT's just not even considered. Unless the guy/gal directly hit the guy, he/she will not feel responsible. He/she was just doing their job.

Once someone has an excuse.... NOthing changes unless something bad happens. Even with this, the company will fight it and claim they were in the right to do so. Because of the legal consiquenses of this. Hence, they might not rethink their policy, cause that might be seen as admiting guilt.

Amtrak still has a lot to answer to on this one, including employee training to be able to identify when somebody is suffering from extremely low blood sugar due to too much insulin.
