Wash Post's Weingarten: Media Overload.
Imagine spending a full day (24 hours straight) surrounded by 6 TVs, 2 radios, and a PC programmed to cycle through a rainbow of blogs. Cruel and unusual punishment?

Actually, the article on the cover page of the Washington Post magazine on Sunday (March 23, 2008) is "Cruel and Usual Punishment". It's by Gene Weingarten, the Post's humor columnist. He's a card carrying liberal Jew from the Bronx, a one time heroin addict, Dave Barry's former editor at the Miami Herald, and he really, REALLY went to Woodstock.

I think his writing is great. So is his weekly chat, Tuesdays with Moron.

But I digress.

His essay on spending 24 straight hours (on Valentine's Day, no less) surrounded by mass media overload is IMO a must read. He eviscerates everyone from Michael Savage (no surprise) to Keith Olbermann (surprised? Read the article) while heaping scorn on everything from President Bush to Congress.... no one is exempt. Except (maybe) C-SPAN:

Don't say I didn't warn you.

3. excellent, thanks
I'm exhausted now.

Here's his quote from Michael Savage:

"I am warning you that many of your progressive friends--the permissive ones, the ones who laugh at conservatives, the ACLU types, the antiwar types? If they have children, I am warning you to watch your children when they go over to their houses."

4. My pleasure.
Savage is a real creep and I'm glad Weingarten wrote about him.

If there's anyone I wouldn't want around my kids, it's Mister Savage Nation and his "loyal" listeners.

6. Follow up
Gene hosted an on-line chat today (Monday, March 24th) where he responded to questions and comments about his Sunday article. You can read it at the link below:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2008/03/20/DI2008032001911.html?sid=ST2008032002026

In the intro Gene admits to one flaw in his article.... he admitted that it failed to include a fact that many DUers already know. Michael Savage is an airname. The fascist flamer's real name is Michael Weiner.
