The Why-Haven’t-You Impeached-the-President Tour
by Carl Hulse
WASHINGTON — When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi set out to promote her new motivational book this month, she simultaneously touched off her national why-haven’t-you-impeached-the-president tour.

As she made the coast-to-coast rounds of lectures, television interviews and radio chats the past two weeks, Ms. Pelosi found herself under siege by people unhappy that she has not been motivated to try to throw President Bush out of office - even if only a few months remain before he leaves voluntarily.

In Manhattan and Los Angeles, at stops in between, on network television and on her home turf of Northern California, Ms. Pelosi has been forced to defend her pronouncement before the 2006 mid-term elections that impeachment over the administration’s push for war in Iraq was off the table.

Pressed on ABC’s “The View” about whether she had unilaterally disarmed, the author of “Know Your Power: A Message to America’s Daughters” said she believed the proceedings would be too divisive and be a distraction from advancing the policy agenda of the new Democratic majority.

Then she added this qualifier: “If somebody had a crime that the president had committed, that would be a different story.”

1. This crap about being unaware of any crimes being committed
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 10:25 AM by LibDemAlways
makes me seriously question this woman's intelligence, if not sanity. If she's serious, she is so uninformed and ignorant that she has no business in Congress, much less a position of leadership. If she isn't serious, why the hell not? There is something very wrong here.

2. translated
What she really means by : “If somebody had a crime that the president had committed, that would be a different story.”

IS

"If we could find a crime that did not also implicate our leadership, we would have impeached him a long time ago."

3. Well Then, What About 9/11?
Surely Congress wasn't complicit before the fact on that!

4. Yep both that and in my purely speculative musings
Since she is a most important official in a Banana Republic -- she is being bought out.

Lots of unaccounted for money, and lots of friends who have made lots of money in the Iraqi War and the resulting war contracts.

I sure do bet that Pelosi's people and Feinstein's people talk a lot. (To each other.)

10. not just as dirty, please

we had no power until recently and even that is a joke, since the congressional oversight power has been reduced to name only power by the executive privilege signings of our great leader. I don't mean to come down on you, I'm sorry if it sounds that way-- it"s just that I don't think we need to buy this version of things -- we hear that in msm all of the time-- "well, the dems are in majority now and nothings changed" -- we aren't in majority in the senate and the truth that no one wants to say outloud is congress has NO power. no arm of the govt but the exec branch has any power that bush doesn't want it to have right now. the dems are NOT as dirty as the republicans. this isn't a matter of opinion, but of fact. the DoJ scandal, the OCC scandal, the executive signing scandals, I could go on and on listing things that have never happened before in the history of our government. and it is the republicans who have done this. we mustn't allow this fact to become clouded by democratic sharing of the blame, as it is not ours to share. and if we pretend like it is, we also believe we have power that we no longer have. it is imperative to realize we don't have that power. ID who took it away. Take steps to restore it ASAP.

we can't forget that the republicans investigate all the dems, and threaten their spouses (even in their own party), many people are begging doj for protection after threats from rove (and this is republicans who are scared of their own party), people are also dropping mysteriously like flies. murders being written of as suicides? too many not to notice. offices being broken into, homes broken into -- these things are scary. all of the people who have been threatened, their lives changed forever due to an unproven rumor, careers lost, jail time, etc-- you can see the force of fear and fascism at work in our midst.

I hope everyone will take some time to consider what might really be going on. and then, what can we do about it? who can we support to bring impeachment to the table? Pelosi has already lost her job, maybe she will decide with some public pressure to do the right thing. I hope she does. I just want us to remain unified, to give some leeway for things we can't see and don't understand, and to focus on the goal.

he must be impeached so we can reestablish the arms of our government.

11. even if not as dirty
there are still some dirty hands. If they had something that didn't implicate them as well. They would have done it a while ago.

13. I'm afraid they are being threatened at the very least
sure, it would be great if they had nothing to hide -- but some of the things people want to hide aren't things that make them dirty politicians, but just human beings -- if you know what I mean.

Don't get me wrong, I'm spending my time figuring out how to get more people to sign Kucinich's impeachment list and in fact, a group of us are going to try to buy a flag with the words of his last impeachment article on it, which if approved would hang near the white house. It's a long shot, but it's important to recognize the loss of our constitution and the 3 arms of government.

9. Another False Meme bites the dust. . .
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 10:18 AM by pat_k
Sure, "nobody wants it." Tell us another one.

Now, if they'd just get it through their pea brains that the "impeachment is political suicide" http://talkingimpeachment.com/toolbox/fight-false-memes">false meme is The OPPOSITE of Reality we'd finally see Articles on Bush and Cheney heading to the Senate.

Nancy wouldn't even need to miss her target date for adjourning for the year before the end of Sept.

Resolved, That George W. Bush is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following article of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate:

Article I:

In the United States of America torture is absolutely and unequivocally Off the Table;

George W. Bush blatantly and willfully put torture ON the Table and abused the Office of the President in his attempts to keep it there;

George W. Bush is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office.
____________

Resolved, Ditto for Cheney

Indefensible. Indisputable.

As we've just seen with Musharraf; as we saw with Nixon, even the threat impeachment can prompt speedy resignations. And so go the other Opposite of Reality memes like "tear the nation apart" (impeachment would unite) and "would take too long" (could be done by Labor Day). . .

Make it it happen. Don't let Pelosi or her defenders off the hook. Keep http://talkingimpeachment.com/">Talking Impeachment
