Far Right's attack on Obama only going to get crazier
Scary: The Far-Right's Crazy Attacks on Obama Are Just Getting Started

Posted by Bob Cesca, Huffington Post at 8:20 AM on November 13, 2008.

What doesn't kill the far-right only makes them crazier.

For the last eight years, we've observed Karl Rove's non-reality based universe in which logic was entirely abandoned in lieu of whatever reality the administration invented in order to serve its ridiculous policies and to mask its glaring nincompoopery. Intellectually dishonest at best -- destructive and criminal at worst.

This didn't end on Election Day.

Since their thumpin' last week, the far-right has pushed the crazy to eleven and snapped the knob clean off -- an opening salvo of twisted hackery portending an insane four-to-eight years of attacks on the Obama administration. If the last seven days have been any indication, the far-right is shaping up to make the 1990s seem quaint -- even erudite by comparison. That which used to be your basic, off-the-shelf intellectual dishonesty has grown into, as Digby pointed out recently, full-on intellectual violence.

Intellectual violence. While not a new term, it perfectly defines what we're seeing now: accusations and smears that so severely confound logic they literally attack -- violate -- reality and the human intellect. It's like a berzerker dervish of argumentative elbows and fists indiscriminately flailing around, thwacking anything in its orbit, so much so that constructing a counterpoint is literally painful, "Why the hell am I trying to debunk this?! Ow! My head. Aw hell, I need a drink."

2. They are setting up an environment of hatred and fear - who knows where
it will lead?

I didn't think the crowd at FR had the ability to horrify/disgust me anymore but their comments regarding those Idaho school children and their bizarre chanting the other day should bring the authorities down on those cowardly anonymous posters.

They are really getting far out there with their talk of guns, violence, etc.

3. Crazy ight-wingers (oxymoron?) have set themselves two fallback hopes now
1. "Obama isn't president yet, the Electoral College hasn't voted!" - Holding out some odd, desperate hope that the Electors will save them from their perceived Marxist boogeyman.

2. "The Supreme Court can still declare Obama ineligible since he hasn't produced a valid birth certificate yet!" - Holding out some odd, desperate hope that the judiciary will save them from their perceived foreign-born interloper.

Crazier than shithouse rats, they are.

4. Frankly, I think the best thing to do...
...is to marginalize them - the Crazies and the Upside-Down People - by pretty much ignoring them.

That means - don't "consume" media by outlets that give them time! And, let the advertisers on those media outlets KNOW that you are not going to be buying their products and services if they keep giving their ad dollars to scoundrels.

I think that's the only real power we have to counter this problem...

5. I disagree. They don't GET marginalized when we ignore them.
I argued for years with my family that Rush Limbaugh, et. al. were turning Americans into hate-filled, dumber-than-shit trouble-makers.

"Oh...nobody believes him," they said.

Every time an idiot gets a public microphone, tells a horrible lie, and gets away with it, another segment of the public gets misled.

If free speech prevents our silencing of these people, then the only option left -- besides complete capitulation -- is to shout back at least as loudly.

Don't let the young and undecided hear nothing but the lies until they're completely unreachable.

Every time they lie, stand up and holler, "BULLSHIT!"

6. On one hand you are right, on the other hand you are wrong.
The media wants us to fight about this stuff, and any other stupid shit they can think of.
Of course, we have to call BULLSHIT on the bullshit.
However, if we let the media and their advertisers, who pay the bills, know that we won't be buying the bullshit, they'll stop giving power to people who don't deserve power.

The more you shout, the more profitable it all is to those who simply want to profit from bullshit.
