Slate: The Misunderestimated Man
Must read, really gets Dub down cold.

The Misunderestimated Man
How Bush chose stupidity.
By Jacob Weisberg
Posted Friday, May 7, 2004, at 6:54 AM PT

The question I am most frequently asked about Bushisms is, "Do you really think the president of the United States is dumb?"

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is yes and no.

(much more)

3. What real stupidity is
Edited on Fri May-07-04 04:00 PM by PATRICK
Not the comical stuff enjoyed orf stupidity is committed by those with the most absolute regard for a lie, of exaggerated self worth, for a self confidence that expects to move mountains, for a fact with blinders on driven over a cliff.

While Bush is not capable of providing the greatest fall from the heights of IQ and knowledge he never had, he has been working very very hard with all the power and trust he has been given by a nation better than he is- making stupid fools of us all. He has exceeded the lowest expectations because of the stupidity an entire nation entered into by allowing Coup 2000 in the first place and all the avoidance and props that came thereafter.

Evil is the ultimate stupidity, a final loss of all the integrity and intellect, wisdom and virtue of a self proud creature. Dante's bestial Satan is the truest portrait of that malevolent "genius".

4. Dangerous
"As the president says, we misunderestimate him. He was not born stupid. He chose stupidity. Bush may look like a well-meaning dolt. On consideration, he's something far more dangerous: a dedicated fool."

This statement is the key one. Many Americans are of average IQ and are simplistic in their world views. This Pres.is popular with them precisely due to his simplistic views and statements. He talks on their level and does not threaten their mental level. Most people disdain intellectuals because it makes them feel less adequate. GW Bush makes them comfortable and they are not challenged to think. That is why this man is so dangerous. He has the capacity to destroy America.

5. Evil is a sub-category of stupid.
Yes sir, exactly, I could not agree more.
The prison photos are a perfect example, stupid to do those
things, stupid to take pictures, stupid to do nothing about it,
stupid to cover it up, stupid, stupid, stupid.

And how are we to win this war if we are not even smart enough
to deal with that?

6. I liked this part the best
The most obvious expression of Bush's choice of ignorance is that, at the age of 57, he knows nothing about policy or history.

Ironic considering his MAJOR at Yale was History. Now that is world class ignorance. I am so proud. :eyes:

7. He follows his "gut", not his head
I've seen him quoted as saying that several times. Doesn't need to think, just follows his gut instinct. Well, we see where Dubya's famous instincts have lead us to. We deserve a president with a brain he can use.
