Votes are there, Will is not for the public option.
In poll after poll the American people support a public option. So what is the holdup? Obama and Pelosi say the votes are not there in the Senate. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) said last week that if the House sent them a reconciliation bill with the public option in it he would aggressively whip the votes needed. The votes are there, so the answer has to be that the leadership doesn't want a public option.

Are they convinced that a public option would hurt them at the polls in November? What will hurt the Democrats in November is continuing to buckle to Republican pressure. Why would centrist voters want to support the Party that can't get anything done because they refuse to fight for what they believe in?

There will be no Republican votes for health care reform, so why aren't the Democrats pushing for the strongest bill they can pass? The real mess is getting the votes needed in the House, after that is cleared up Nancy Pelosi needs to send the strongest reconciliation measure she can to the Senate, and by all accounts the votes are there for her to send a public option.

4. All the more reason to make them vote straight up or down
Shine the light on the rats who won't vote the way of the American people. They need to be exposed and we need to know who stands with us and who is working against us. They will of course try all sorts of political maneuvers to avoid being shown.

5. Obama promised the Insurance Industry..No Public Option.
Of course the votes would be there because the public is so in favor of it. That is no secret from anyone, least of all from members of Congress. The only reason there is no public option is that Obama is blocking it to honor his commitment to the insurance cartel. Sorry to all you DLC Rahmbots who are posting anti-DK threads at a fever pitch...it isn't Kucinich throwing a wrench into health care reform...to the contrary, it's one of your "New Dem" com-padres.

7. a cynical reason they are doing the private insurance mandate now: boomers aging into Medicare
and the decline of the labor movement means many of the young aren't even offered insurance through their employers and make too little to buy it on their own.

So how can the insurance companies replace the boomer customers they are leaving? Put a gun to the head of the young.
