New Rule: Al Gore Must Come Out With a Sequel to His Film and Call It An Inconvenient Truth 2: What the F*ck Is Wrong With You People?

New Rule: Al Gore must come out with a sequel to his movie about climate change and call it, An Inconvenient Truth 2: What the Fuck Is Wrong with You People? A bunch of depressing new surveys reveal that people in droves are starting to believe that global warming is a hoax -- and this time, it's not just us. People are always accusing me of hating America and calling it stupid, so tonight I'd like to take a few moments to hate England and call it stupid. Because now English people don't believe in global warming either. I thought the English were smarter than that. The home of Newton and Darwin. I can't believe we let these people build our exploding oil platforms.

Even scarier is why people have stopped thinking global warming is real. One major reason pollsters say is we had a very cold, snowy winter. Which is like saying the sun might not be real because last night it got dark. And my car's not real because I can't find my keys.

That's the problem with our obsession with always seeing two sides of every issue equally -- especially when one side has a lot of money. It means we have to pretend there are always two truths, and the side that doesn't know anything has something to say. On this side of the debate: Every scientist in the world. On the other: Mr. Potato Head.

There is no debate here -- just scientists vs. non-scientists, and since the topic is science, the non-scientists don't get a vote. We shouldn't decide everything by polling the masses. Just because most people believe something doesn't make it true. This is the fallacy called argumentum ad numeram: the idea that something is true because great numbers believe it. As in: Eat shit, 20 trillion flies can't be wrong.

1. It is true that popular consent is less efficient.
Which is why representative democracies are some of the best systems.

But it is also true that if you ignore the population by doing in secret, then you have to hide, and eventually you get caught since secrecy also leads to corruption.

So the better government is a little less efficient, since it has to also educate the people accurately on things like society. Why doesn't the government pay for 1 hour of tv that gives civic lessons at prime time on major news stations? Or even the history channel. Without a bias, but as informational, not as PR.

But anyway, if you go the route of people can not rule themselves, then you have to hide what you do, because people don't like that thought in leaders, and it always fails, since secrecy, and those that like that end up drifting to corruption.

If you go the route of bringing the population with you by explaining why and how things work, including developing things like empathy and desires for just societies, then you can sustain a society. And that requires media also.

Although deception allows for much theft and personal profit, and education helps society. So the problem is not that society can not rule itself, it is that the leaders that think they can rule with dictatorships, are usually a bit worse then most in society, hence why the concept of dictatorship based on people not being able to rule is wrong. And why real democracies are important for stability and better societies.

4. This idea can be fleshed out a lot more
"Why doesn't the government pay for 1 hour of tv that gives civic lessons at prime time on major new stations?"

Such as why would the government need to pay for something it already owns?

Such as, why, if TV is such a great information transmitter, presumably due to it's known brain-wave altering effects, isn't it used to educate 24/7 on all channels? Each channel could be a specialists channel devoted to a different topic.

To me, it really points out the lie of education being so important that we must force it down our childrens throats in fenced compounds only slightly different from prisons in a compulsory system of years of punishment and cruelty. Didn't experience that in school? You were very, very lucky. The cream of the crop.

The answer as to why TV is misused for non-educational entertainment and propaganda is boiled down to one word: Money.

Money money money money.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

2. I like Bill's line of thought
Bill says "scientists vs. non-scientists, and since the topic is science, the non-scientists don't get a vote."

We should extend that to "progressives vs. conservatives, and since the topic is what is good for the country, the conservatives don't get a vote."

Stick that in your ear Glenn Beck.

5. Crush that talking point now: snow or not, we just had the WARMEST January, February and March EVER
Why we give ANY cover by conceding things that simply aren't so is beyond any sense at all.

Good for Maher, once again, regardless of my picky corrections.

7. That is a new stance that drives me insane. There are NOT two equal sides
to every story, but the M$M treats every issue like there are two equal and opposite, valid opinions.

More often, one side is correct and the other is just plain wrong.

10. This fact has been on my mind constantly, ever since a character from the Wire said, "A lie is not
another side of the story. It's just a lie."(probably paraphrased by my crappy memory.) It doesn't take a genius to know this, yet the media continues with their idiotic notion of "fair and balanced." The ridiculous "study" that claimed to prove "liberal media bias" depended on this notion in its analysis. Utter fail, yet it's still cited as proof.

This country is really getting depressing.
