When Capitalism Meets Cannabis
One of the odder experiments in the recent history of American capitalism is unfolding here in the Rockies: the country’s first attempt at fully regulating, licensing and taxing a for-profit marijuana trade. In California, medical marijuana dispensary owners work in nonprofit collectives, but the cannabis pioneers of Colorado are free to pocket as much as they can — as long as they stay within the rules.

1. It was the need for more public revenue...
...that helped to bring an end to the disaster that was Prohibition, the lure of being able to tax alcohol again and not waste so much money enforcing a ban on it. Maybe the bad economy now will help bring an end to at least part of the idiocy that is the "war on drugs", the part concerning marijuana.

4. Adolph Bush ran a full page newspaper ad
an "open letter" saying basically, in this depression we could use all the jobs we can get, so why not let people get to work brewing beer?

3. “We’re past the days when people call here to ask if marijuana will give men breasts”
That made me laugh.

5. OK so I know nothing about this
what is the going rate for a lid of pot? $16 a gram would be like $450 an ounce right?

6. That's about right
I'm sure the more you bought the less per gram it would cost though. Like buying a six pack compared to a case of beer. The price per can goes down with the more you buy. That's how it should work IMO.

7. Different types and amounts

For an ounce of the top stuff, about 350-400 dollars or so, with halves at 200, 1/8 at 50 or 60. You can get midgrade for about 250 or so an ounce and I wouldn't go below that unless you were desperate and in possession of a kick ass vaporizor. Of course it depends on where you are and who you know. Personally I am going to try that K2 to see if it is any good for a while and not have to worry about my next piss test as I am in school going for some certifications right now. Will probably run a test on myself(15 dollars at a drug mart less if brought online) to be sure though it supposedly doesent show up. Speaking of which the best way to get around piss tests that I know of besides drinking water and not smoking for 2-3+ weeks(up to a month for a chronic smoker) is urine you buy(ureasample.com for one), and then use a heat pack to put at body temperature. Have only had one test right before I got out of the Air Force where there was actually someone staring at me while I filled a cup up though even then they have a fake attachment you can buy. All the urinol or tea drinks or detox I have heard of are unreliable according to NORML which is the one organization I would definitely trust on such issues.

11. most of them max out at about $350/375 a lid.
but this stuff is SO potent that you use much less than back in the day. I vaporize mine now instead of smoking it. makes life much easier.

9. I am a caregiver here in Colorado.
Anybody like to ask some questions, I'd be happy to answer what I know.

But so people know the difference, I am NOT a dispensary. I grow and provide meds for myself, my wife, and three friends who named me their caregiver.

And it is a second job. I work very long hours. And when I get home at 2am and it's watering day, I spend the next hour mixing up nutrients and watering plants by hand. It's not just put in soil and add water. And don't get me started about the hours spent in my room on electrical and ventilation. This whole week is being spent upgrading my ventilation. A few hours in the attic during the summer is going to be a shit ton of fun.

This conversation needs to be kept alive. Acceptance is the key to wider legalization and an end to the victimization and criminalization caused by drug war.
