Republican Legislators Push to Tighten Voting Rules
Edited on Sun May-29-11 12:30 PM by elleng
'Taken together, the state-by-state changes are likely to have an impact on close elections, Mr. Tokaji said.

“Remarkably, most of these significant changes are going under the radar,” he added. “A lot of voters are going to be surprised and dismayed when they go to their polling place and find that the rules have changed.” . .

But with the presidential election campaign season already under way, Democrats say they are taking no chances. The Democratic Governors Association started a Voter Protection Project this month to educate voters and encourage them to speak out against the measures. It also began running online advertisements.'

These are the Democratic Governors.

Martin O'Malley, MD, is Chair.

Dems should have a movement/some actions to counter this repug b.s., imo, 'cause this could be a killer, esp considering crap legislation a bunch of repug govs are throwing around.

Thoughts on reaching Dems about this?

1. This stuff scares the shit out of me. No doubt this could help Rethugs to win in the close ones.
This kind of shit ought to be illegal.

3. Scares the shit out of me too, which is why I post about it often.
Should be challenged in each State, 'cause some of their mechanisms probably ARE illegal. IMO national Dems should have a body/mechanism to challenge all of these, and would like to hear DUers ideas on how to implement/encourage this.

5. I guess the most important thing is bringing it to the attention of the DNC as soon as possible..
so they can throw some resources at it. Some of this stuff is under the radar so keeping a close watch for it is key too.

10. Here are DNC officers.
I suggest DUers contact each of them, and share our concerns and thoughts on this subject.

9. republicans will be repartitioning in Ohio soon.
So on top of suppressing voting, the republicans can gerrymander our districts to ensure eternal rule, and the ruination of the state.

2. All the media should be bringing it to the attention of all
voters in all the states. If they don't, they can't be called newspapers, television news programs, or radio. They are called frauds.

4. Well, they are frauds, and we can't count on them;
we've got to do stuff on our own, imo.

6. Is this the only way rethugs can win elections?
The public has finally caught on to the rethugs stealing of elections using Diebold and the Supreme Court. This must be their new, improved method.
