Why not legalize prostitution?
A Public Policy Institute poll shows a majority of Nevada residents favor legalizing prostitution statewide. That's more than the number of people who favor legalizing Internet poker - a step Nevadans narrowly oppose. The good people of the fine state of Nevada would rather gamble with their genitalia than with their mice and modems. They'd prefer to stroke some skin than labor over keystrokes.

We must focus on the welfare of the people involved rather than spending our energy casting moral aspersions against them. Moral judgments only cloud the issue. Legalizing prostitution may or may not be the best course of action. But I believe we must be open to the possibility that doing so might actually improve the situation. And, if we think it will, we shouldn't flinch from doing exactly that.

2. Because it affects more people than just those who use or profit by it.

3. Because...
...it means allowing women control over something they should have controlled from day 1, and the prevailing attitude is still that women's sexuality belongs to men.
...it equates to less outside (generally male) control over both workers and profits, since workers then have access to luxuries like, say, calling the police without the threat of jail time if someone gets violent with them or, say, leaving the trade when it no longer suits them without a felony record. It also yanks a huge chunk of revenue out from under the thriving Nevada penal system.
...health and safety isn't the issue, "morals" are, and any number of dead/battered/abused/trafficked human beings is A-OK if it makes a vague moral point. Especially if they're mostly dead/battered/abused/trafficked females.
...Gawd sez it makes Republican Jeezus cry.

/turns off the sarcasm switch

That being said, I hope they can push this through. It's a painfully overdue step. I was really rooting for Mayor Goodman when he floated the idea of a Vegas red-light district, and was very disappointed when it fell through.

4. It should be legal in the whole US
It could possibly save more marriages than destroy them.

5. Why not? Prostitution is alive and well in the Congress!
Why not move the House of Representatives from DC to the Cherry Patch Ranch in Nevada?

9. I think it should be legal BUT... Unnecessary.
I think we need to remedy the societal and economic (capitalism) reasons that many women see this as their only or best option for supporting themselves and/or families.

To legalize prostitution without doing that creates little more than a class of sexual-wage-slaves.

12. Women are actually safer in areas with "legal" prostitution
in Bordellos or whatever a nice term for whore-house is, women are safer than they are when they are hookering it up on random streets.

They also feel safer to refuse certain acts and are generally treated with more respect.

That and you can tax the f**k out of it to pay for things we need (besides sex, of course)
