Wall Street Is Biggest Donor to Deficit Panel Members
Published: Wednesday, 17 Aug 2011 | 12:55 PM ET

Who’s been cozying up to the members of the new Congressional super committee?

With the committee set to decide on a whopping $1.5 trillion in federal deficit reduction this fall, lobbyists and corporations are trying to figure out which industries are best connected to the 12 members of the new panel.

You can bet that those connections will be pressed to the limit in coming months as companies and sectors scramble to ensure that federal spending they like and tax breaks they depend on aren’t slated for elimination.

As it looks at the new committee members, Wall Street may like what it finds. But defense contractors may find themselves wishing they’d ponied up more cash over the years.

2. the super congress is a lose-lose for us. either they come up with devastating cuts
or there are automatic across the board cuts.

Obama sold us out and got nothing in return.

3. "Obama sold us out & got nothing in return" LOL!
Maybe Obama should have just let the country go into default? Oh that's right you folks would have cried & spit & screamed about that as well! According to your comment you obvious believe that Obama has special magic powers to everything he wants to do but chooses not to...SAD!

6. The Chicago Newspaper said he was an "excellent Poker Player" in the early stories about Obama
during the Campaign of 20008.

I think someone in the Chicago News World got their facts wrong...or they should fire their "observer/reporter" who said Obama was a great Poker Player.

But, maybe the Chicago Reporters got it all wrong...that it wasn't Poker but CHESS that he was a champion of.

I don't play Chess or Poker but maybe some here on DU who play both or one or the other can explain which of the games Obama is playing. I'm sure I don't know at this point. What's his good game? Maybe Basketball or Soccer?

9. no, Obama and Senate Democrats in particular have chosen not to do all that is within
their constitutional power to work around the Republican roadblocks.

Obama has failed to use the bully pulpit to get the public to pressure or remove Republicans, and Senate Dems failed to change the filibuster rules when they had a chance. And there was no downside to the second since Dems rarely used the filibuster threat to block the worst GOP proposals when they Dems were the minority, and never effectively that I can remember.

11. Do you have any substantive comments, or do you just come here to insult people?

5. Who Woulda' Thunk?"
:eyes: Not those of us who are informed...We knew the Score...but sadly those working so hard day and night who have little time to keep up and only have the Corporate Funded Media as to where they get their news.

It's disgusting what's going on.

8. "No bribes/donations" would have been an obvious, sensible rule for the committee
But that assumes we want it to do something democratic rather than what it's designed for.

12. If they wanted to do something Democratic, they wouldn't have given Republicans half the seats.
