Bush admits some regret over 'Bring 'em on' quip

January 14, 2005

WASHINGTON -- President Bush expressed misgivings Thursday for two of his most famous expressions: ''Bring 'em on,'' in reference to Iraqis attacking U.S. troops, and his vow to get Osama bin Laden ''dead or alive.''

On July 2, 2003, two months after he had declared an end to major combat in Iraq, Bush promised U.S. forces would stay until the creation of a free government there. To those who would attack U.S. forces in an attempt to deter that mission, Bush said, ''My answer is, Bring 'em on.''

''Sometimes, words have consequences you don't intend them to mean,'' Bush said Thursday. '''Bring 'em on' is the classic example, when I was really trying to rally the troops and make it clear to them that I fully understood, you know, what a great job they were doing. And those words had an unintended consequence. It kind of, some interpreted it to be defiance in the face of danger. That certainly wasn't the case.''

7. Not To Mention Listing An Error
Guess he's had enough time to find a coouple of mistakes, finally. Now that the war is won and all. And the economy booming.

2. You rally the troops by taunting the enemy?
Maybe in football. Does Bush realize that this is a real war?

11. another translation:
"I regret having made these statements because they've provided ammunition for my critics. Now that I've expressed regret, my critics can no longer say I've never admitted a mistake."

6. Shows that we have a CIC
that doesn't have a clue what war is really like. It's all theory to him and those around him. The consequence was lives does he take responsibility for that then too? Or is it still only a theory and they are waiting for the flowers to be thrown at the troops.

10. He only mentioned it because the Iraqi fighters mentioned it in
their audio tape this week. Of course our so called liberal media doesn't see fit to mention the Iraqi tape when they religiously report Bush's words.
