I know everyone hates the idea
And while I agree it is a wate of time and money, and a pathetic attempt to rip-off Kennedy to win an election. I think it'd be neat to see another moon trip. But of course as a Canuck my taxes wouldn't pay for it!

Plus I missed the first landing.

4. How would it rip off Kennedy?
Kennedy didn't invent the moon. Is it riping off Columbus to come to America to live, or even visit as a tourist? golly, we have to concentrate on what * really does wrong, not just pick up on everything that *says or does and call it evil.

Besides, it is not a wast of money, but I won't debate this. This is another of those, "you're either for us or against us things"

5. Because of Kennedy's moon promise
It got the people of America excited. Bush wants that same excitment.

9. I disagree....
The chimp's record demands that we assume he is up to no good. No matter how well intentioned his plans sound, further investigation ALWAYS reveals an ulterior motive that will enrich the bank accounts of his cronies, or further his regressive social/political agenda, or both.

22. What the hell are you talking about....
I'm saying his plans always have a hidden agenda. His aids plan benefits pharmaceutical company cronies, and furthers pseudo-Christian birth control restrictions. His healthy forest initiative turns our National Forests over to the timber barons, His clean air act guarantees more air pollution than we've ever seen, and on and on! Tell me, what is loony about my comment? Once you dissect his policies, and discover what is really going on, it's always about enriching corporations, and furthering his evil agenda. I stand by my comments. He shouldn't be trusted. Ever!

6. On balance
I don't necessarily "hate the idea" of another moon landing. I just don't think we should be planning moon landings when the federal budget is projected to be $500 billion in the red. That's all.

we get to have higher deficits, an eight trillian dollar debt, no universal health-care, and a rotten education system just so you can watch another moon landing.

Easy for a Canadian to say, why not just get your country to do it?

12. the bush administration wants to totally bankrupt the federal government
so that even if in the future there can be legislation for healthcare for those who don't have it, safety net for the poor, the elderly and the disabled, and other necessities for people, .. there will never be money to fund any of it, meaning none of it will ever happen. This moon and mars program is just another way to spend money big-time but without starting a war, since this last war they started made them look like the corrupt liars and thieves that they are.

13. July, 1969.
So HEyHEy, you missed the first moon landing, no big deal.
I'll never forget Abbey Hoffman's take on that momentous
occasion:

Astronaut: "We're here"!!!

Houston: "What are your first words"

Astronaut: "Drink Tang"!!!!!

21. The really funny joke...
Is that NASA spent hundreds of millions over the years to 'perfect' astronaut food...afterall it had to be scientific and all that stuff in a 'zero' gravity environment.

I read subsequently that the Russians in order to SAVE money for their space program simply sent up cans and a can opener!! Apparantly cans are ideally suited to 'zero gravity' as well...

Good on Abbie...Nice joke...

17. Moon: Been There, Done That
Edited on Sat Jan-10-04 07:26 PM by Jawja
we don't need to go back to the moon. I was a Senior in High School and remember the first landing and Neil Armstrong's walk vividly.

A truly great moment in modern human history.

We don't need to go back to the moon; and we are already exploring Mars with high tech and sophisticated robots. George W. Bush is just trying to steal the headlines from NASA and the JPL team that designed and built the robots, launched them, and landed the first one successfully on the surface of Mars.

He is proposing nothing new at all. He is a day late and a dollar short.

on edit: by "first one" I mean the first one of two: Spirit and Opportunity later this month. Sojourner and Pathfinder were first. BEFORE * stole the election.

20. Bush wants to establish American military domination of space.
While he continues to bankrupt the United States and kill Social Security and Medicare. There will be nothing left for my generation -- and I have paid into the Social Security and Medicare system for more than 35 years. I have no pension because I have worked in private industry. What they promised I would get from IRA and 40lK savings are a joke.
