Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown on Dean and Hillary
Jerry Brown was just on MSNBC'S "Scarborough Country." His response when Scarborough asked him if he thought that Hillary Clinton would surprise everyone and "step in to save the day" and run as the Democratic candidate:

"If they think she can win, yes. People get into this business not out of humility but out of very strong ambition. If they smell it coming at them within reach it will be very hard to hold them back."

Brown stated his opinion that Kerry's "blandness" initially worked against him but now it's working for him because he appears "stable," and people are responding positively to it. He also felt that Dean is doing remarkably well given the sheer number and variety of attacks directed at him since entering the race. That's 100% Jerry Brown opinion, with no embellishment on my part. I'm still undecided...:-(

Scarborough's question was based on a "what if the end result is that we end up with a Democratic nominee who is perceived as not not strong enough to beat Bush" fantasy. Expect many, many more "what ifs" as November draws near, as well as "seasoned" personality politicians like Brown being asked for their analysis.
