3. No - these are the good guys!!!!
Dorothy Day - God bless her - started a movement based on the Acts of the Apostles - where people live in harmony with nature and eachother (and God) to better serve eachother. The true Christian movement is that of loving every person as yourself - which is FAR from what Shrub and his PNAC and 700 Club cronies talk about - and the Catholic Worker movement was, and is, about a true socialist Christian movement towards communal and ecological loving coexistance. Sorry, don't mean to sound so sappy, but being a devout Democratic person (with a captal D) this is a movement close to my heart. The Catholic Worker front would be a great asset to our cause!!!!!

8. Yes
even before Liberation Theology was coined.
Knew about, rather closely, of Maryknollers killed in Central America because of U$ policy and that damned SOA (now know under another name so some think it is okay, especially the Human Rights course (BS)). Remember 200,000 Guatemalean Indians killed because of Ray-gun and others. Many tribes and their culture vanished (I have some of their handiwork to remember them by and am saddened that they live no more.) and ... Forget it. Even here at DU many think that America is just taking a side trip into infamy under Bu$h, but many things have been perpertrated under the name of the American People and I wish they would wake UP!

6. Catholics should be like this.
But they will always have to listen to the Pope. However, as long as they aren't part of the Bush consortium, then I won't consider them the enemy.

Dorothy Day was a great woman and Commonweal still publishes.
And I remember getting smacked by a WASP woman when picketing and boycotting grapes.

7. Please - as a devout liberal and a devout social Democrat

I can say that these are the "truest Christians" I have ever come in contact with. They love the Earth - environmental issues - communal living, social reform, charitable work, love for each and every person...... i digress, my point was to try and find one of them among the DU ranks. I know that it's easy to Catholic bash in a democratic framework - if you want to debate the Catholic faith the name is ChavezspaekstheTruth - but we're pushing for the ideal America - that's the ultimate goal, no?. Let's move forward as an American people and, if love is a move forward (and IT IS) let's move!!!!

Catholic Workers - please contact me i need to talk to you!!!!)

11. Why?
E-mail me, I sent you a DU mail.
As in any organizations there are things that happen that shouldn't or don't comply with the goals.
I sent you my e-mail. I know of a semi-fundi episcopalian who wanted to get into the CW in ABQ and was pissed that 'this person' was not accepted, they figured this person was a 'case', which I also found out to my expense.
However, as in all human organizations there are all too 'human' problems.

10. I stayed at the CW Farm as kid
I stayed at the CW Farm as kid when Dorothy Day was there. My father flirted with the movement for a few years. All I remember was having to say the Angelus three times a day, but it seemed like we were dropping to our knees every 20 minutes!

12. Children do not
have a perception of time like adults.
LOL!
The Benedictines, I think, have the motto "Pray as if everything depended on God, work as if everything depended on you."
Not too bad a motto, especially given the works versus faith thing. (Why I distrust Fundies, faith is all you need, but the only decent thing old Paul said was: " Faith and Hope shall all pass away, but CHARITY shall remain forever and If I have not CHARITY I am but a tinkling cymble ..." "Mirror darkly" and a few other things, but I am not fond of St. Paul.
Ubi caritas, Deus ibi est! Or why I walked out of the Church, they didn't sing Ubi caritas on Holy Thursday. 12th centuary hymn, Where there is God, surely love abides ....
