The $400.00 Child tax credit check is a fraud....
This "rebate" has been constantly replayed in the media and government as a check for $400.00 for EVERY child in the family UNDER the age of 18.

I have 2 children under 18. I received my check the other day for $400.00.....THAT's $400.00 not $800.00. Why?? Along with the check was a little note from the IRS stating, and I paraphrase,....

This new law provides broad-based tax relief, including a $400.00 increase in the child tax credit for 2003 for each eligible child born AFTER DECEMBER 31, 1986.

What the F**K is that shit !!!!!????

Bush lies again.

3. That would mean
that dependants over 16 don't count. I mean at 16 you're old enough to be unemployed right. :9

4. maybe only one child per family is considered eligible.
I haven't read the law, so I don't know what the catch is. they could have screwed up your check, or one is delayed.

6. Aaah, that's where my check is
I honestly haven't paid much attention, I figured I wouldn't get very much anyway. But now I know for sure, my youngest was born in February 1986. I am now amongst those who 'didn't pay taxes'(ha), so didn't get a tax cut!

7. yes and don't forget
the ones who will never get the tax check in the mail , why , not because they don't have children , because they did'nt make enought to be part of this plan , if ya claimed a imcome credit on your taxes , it means you already got 600 bucks and don't even think about getting anymore , you don't need it , this is the way jr. thinks , now if some one who did'nt even make enought to pay taxes and got 600 last year in a check you would think maybe jr. would send them some more just to help them out , like buying school cloths and shoes for the kids for school , not these idiots , screew all them poor folks , lets just give the tax checks to a few and make it sound like we gave everyone a check , hell they are all stupid and won't even no they they have just been had by the biggest crooks of all times

12. It ain't tax relief....it's a tax shift.
You will pay out that much or more in state and local taxes while services are being cut.

It's also a loan that your children will be paying off with interest.

15. You can thank the Democrats for those tax credits you got.
They weren't in the Republican tax cut plan. The Democrats fought hard to get them in so that people who were less than wealthy would receive some of the tax cut.

Good to be a Democrat and be on the side of goodness, isn't it?

...while services are being cut and the states are going bankrupt, this one is either clueless or a from the dark side.

19. And we must add Olympia Snowe
She worked right beside those Democrats to get these tax cuts. And the 10% tax bracket? The Democrats and Snowe also insisted that was implemented FIRST. If I've missed a deserving Senator, sorry, I just gained so much admiration for her in that process.

And stupid Republicans still thank Bush for something he didn't even do and then don't blame him when their states are going bankrupt. Criminy.

8. those who got less than 400 per child
are REALLY pissed. this includes many Replicant full-timers at my institution. They really, really thought that the constant touting of an unqualified 400.00 (they did often say "middle class") meant 400.00 per child per household. Of course, everyone thinks they are "middle class" which was problem one. But, the promotion of this somewhat complicated scheme in simple terms came back to bite 'em on the ass in the WH I think.

our office manager---who, does not get EIC and does qualify for the refund---has 16 year old twins, a 13 year old and an 11 year old. She and her husband got a grand total of 134.50. My, there are two who personally feel betrayed by their darling in the WH---they are especially outraged by their "born in January 1987" (yep, they were THE New Year's babies in their city that year) exemption from the refund.

But, once again, I'm amazed that a family who makes as little as they do see their economic interests as being the same as Dick "Halliburton" Cheney and George "Arbusto" Bush. They aren't stupid people but they did buy all the talk pushed about the massive tax cuts comin' their way! they certainly learned the hard way.

10. ...
The scam is even more in that $157 billion is all that even has the chance of going to the middle class, while the dividend tax cut alone is $500 billion. The tax cuts in whole make the $157 billion about ten percent of the cut. Talking about this makes me want to beat up Republicans.

32. "...everyone thinks they are 'middle class'...."
Welcome to the foundation of the issue. Recall the recent poll where something like 13% of Americans thought they were in the top 1% for income.

Read it again. Imagine the result of the "who thinks they're middle class" poll? :eyes:

11. Rebate
Based on the date, it sounds like it's for children who are under 18 at the end of the current tax year. A subtle difference from '18 at the time of the passage of the tax cut', but yeah, I can see why you're irritated.

21. no one can figure out why some people get more
....even aside from that birthdate cutoff. Some people get $13. Some people get $400. With variations in between. They have not released info on how the amount is to be calculated.

AND...this is an advance on next year's tax credit. Whatever you get now, you won't get on next year's refund. It's an ADVANCE.

30. Hmmmm... $400 or a teacher for my kids
I vote teachers. Or cops on the street. Or security at nuclear power plants. Or permanent air marshalls on long distance flights. Or school lunches. Or college grant increases. Or fully funded veteran's benefits. I'm not unemployed and have a consistent income so I'm better off thansome, but I'm no where near rolling in it or even seeing anything I might be able to roll in one day; but I don't need that $400.00 Maybe you really do, but most of us are thinking about long term benefits instead of short term bribes.

28. Seriously,
I'm tired of Bill Clinton bitching about this tax cut. If he doesn't want HIS tax cut, then why doesn't he donate it to a charity or send it to me, or even send it back to the federal treasury to pay off our deficits! Why not, Bill? Stop being a hypocrite, and send me that $80,000. I could sure use it.
