On what date did the Iraq War end?
And, did we win?

In the past several days I have heard the media, in causal reference, refer to "post war Iraq", "after the war", and "pre and post war".

I try to stay on top of the news. Somewhere, it seems, I would've seen little Georgie* strutting about saying the war was over. I've missed that. I saw that Mission Accomplished crap last summer, but, heck, even Bush* admitted that was just, well, hell, whatever he admitted it wasn't a statement that should be taken as the events in in Iraq were over.

Did the "capture" of Saddam mean the end of the war? Hmmm, don't recall that it was phrased that way.

Was it when Iraq signed the "constitution"? I suppose, but I'll be waiting for that to make the difference to keep peace. And, again, maybe I missed the declaration that this event was the end of the war.

Are our kids still fully deployed over there? Are they still taking hits from roadside bombers and terrorists? Are they still coming home without limbs and in bodybags?

The war ain't over, not by a long shot. And the media has no business saying that it is over and ready for the history books.

3. and he also said that the threat of WMD ended then, too
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 06:36 PM by arcane1
anyone going to hold him to THESE remarks:

"...one thing is certain -- no terrorist network will gain weapons of mass destruction from the Iraqi regime because the Iraqi regime is no more"

yet still we die there, daily, still we hear about WMD threats... :eyes:

5. technically...
Technically we are still in a state of war with Iraq. Even though there is no soverign entity to be at war with currently.

The speech president Bush gave last may was "an end to major combat operations" or somesuch. Those words were chosen carefully to comply with international laws and traditions. had he said the war was over then there would be a whole can of international law worms to contend with.

6. It began in 1991
continued through 12 years of sanctions that killed half a million Iraqi children, flared up again a year ago, and will likely contunue for some time after the U.S. pulls out the last troops -- if ever.

12. thanks
ya know, I recognize what you are saying, but seeing it in print like that made me feel ill once again. I can't believe how little the media of this country value our dying youth.
