Helping the "lost and ignorant" see the light...
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 06:16 PM by Nightjock
Is it possible to change the mind of a die hard Republican? In many cases they are so blindly partisan they buy all the BullSpit the "White House of Lies" spins.
I have 4 good friends who are Republican. For the last two years I have very subtley mentioned some of the Bush lies whenever they have popped up in the news. Most of the time it resulted in the good natured arguments that are part of friendships.
I have printed out articles and given them out, got three of them to read all or part of Al Frankens book and kept alive friendly debates after "Bushco" swept them under the media rug.
Three out of four of these people (republicans!)have told me THERE IS JUST NO WAY THEY CAN VOTE FOR BUSH THIS NOVEMBER!
The holdout has agreed with me on several of the Presidents shortcomings but refuses to believe he is an evil liar.
This cannot just be limited to my own personal experiance.Every one of the four is 30 years old or older and never voted for a Democrat in thier lives.
These polls that come out everyday showing how close the election will be cannot possibly take into account the tremendous undercurrent of the public that is FINALLY seeing "the emperor has no clothes." (?)

Am I being naive?
Has anyone had personal experiances like mine?

1. Unfortunately, no.
The people I know are Republicans with a capital "R." They get their news from Faux, Limbaugh and Drudge and actually want the kind of state Shrub will impose.

The only one I can think of who might budge will take nothing I say seriously because I'm an atheist. I'm thinking of asking him to read Al Franken's book, but he might get sidetracked by all the "bad" words. (He's a fundy Christian.)

2. I'm exhausted at the thought that we have to personally educate each and
every American out there. BTW - Why does the president have to be an "evil liar." Isn't a simple liar on relevant issues enough? We don't have to prove he's the devil, we just have to raise doubts.

Great Work!

3. Personally, I know 4 people who voted for Bush in 2000

4 fairly conservative people, who say they will never vote for Bush again. I hope there's a lot more of that out there.

4. It IS possible to change their minds... but harder for them to admit it...

So, if you change a mind, you may never know it.

So, nightjock - radio guy or nocturnal athlete?

5. The first
Small radio station in New York. About 100,000 listeners but 65 percent Republican!
I catch hell on the phones when I bash Bush, but more and more people are calling to defend me than in the past. One woman whose son is in Iraq called and said she voted for Bush in 2000 but will not do the same this time.

6. I envy you...
I jocked and programmed commercial radio in the 80s and 90s but never moved to talk. Wish I had!
