PBS doing 3mile island show now...
Interesting, since they also lied about this.

Show titled "Meltdown at Three Mile Island".

1. The Three Mile Island
story has never been properly reported. The actual risk to the public was grossly over-stated by the press.

I meet a lady on Sunday that reminded me it has been twenty five years since the incident, and told me she still thinks it nearly blew up like a bomb.

3. I live 30 miles from TMI
I remember this like it was yesterday.

I also know some guys that worked there when this event took place and it was NOT over-stated at all. In fact is was as close to a nuclear disaster as you can come.

I had two very close friends who died of cancer before their 40th birthday. Both were working within 2 miles of the plant but, of course, the NRC denied that anyone was exposed. The folks that live there and worked there know better.

BTW, President Carter was at ground-zero during the eclipse of the disaster. I often thought that was either very brave or very stupid of him.

If you watch the film clips you will see another familiar item.....workers from Haliburton. I guess they have been gouging for a long time.

4. Carter...
Showed true courage in going down there, IMHO. People were scared and confused and his presence gave them hope and reassurance. He went in danger of his life for the good of the people--and because he had to know first hand what the HELL was going on there.

I think that one day he'll be remembered as a truly underestimated president.

Question: What would Chimpy have done? Actually, we know the answer from 9/11.

Here's to ya, Jimmy! You have got a PAIR!!!

9. the people cheered his motorcade as he went in
This part brought me to tears, the contrast with * was so stark.

Also the gratitude that the governor and others had at the advisor that Carter sent in---someone who really knew what was happening and worked to ease the situation, not just put political spin on it.

A very good documentary, I thought.

10. Ah, after Peak Oil hits, historians everywhere will
dust off his energy policy speeches.

If only we would have listened to him while we had the chance...:grr:

5. You're right...
it wasn't overstated. I remember MANY women having miscarriages also shortly after this occurred..

12. Used to live in Middletown
I remember the first time I rode past TMI. Even after all these years, its still a little frightening to go past.

I lived there for about 6 years, and I still think there is more to the story than what we were told.

6. I remember being glued to the tube during those days ..
My youngest was 3 months old, and I sympathized with those mothers with little kids, having to evacuate, and not know if they would ever be able to go home..

8. Core Melted Down 5 Feet
Glad to see this as I was in high school when it happened and not paying close attention.

The ineptitude of the Professionals* was just scary.

Great interviews.
