Randi Rhodes reminds me of Alan Berg....
Anyone remember Alan? When I first started listening to talk radio out of Denver, KOA had Peter Boyles and Alan Berg on their station. I was not real impressed with Alan Berg at first impression. And I thought Peter Boyles was an intelligent, moderate liberal. I really did not like Alan Berg. He was rude - even to those that were supportive of him.

However, the more I listened, the more I liked Alan and the less I liked Peter Boyles. Alan became my favorite. He was a character and the rudeness was part of his "schtick". But he was intelligent and outspoken and he made more sense than anyone they have ever had on that station since his assassination...

1. Wasn't there a movie made about his assassination?

I much prefer firebrand radio like Randi or Mike Malloy to dulcet tones myself...

I think it was Talk Radio with Eric Bogosian, directed by Oliver Stone.

On edit: Blew Eric's last name.

9. Ditto
I'm guzzling some beaujolais as I type, and I think I've nearly reached my limit.

I'll see how far I go, and hope I don't wake up tomorrow banned.

Just kidding.

6. There is a difference between Malloy and Rhodes
Malloy has been through a bit more and is broader and more courteous of his base. He gave people the benefit of the doubt, and when he attacked someone, we knew why. You had to love that guy.

7. A little about Alan Berg
He started out as a lawyer in Chicago, and by working hard made a few bucks defending street criminals and other lowlifes. He and his mother operated an upscale toy store in Chicago's Old Town. The store's name was "Granny Good Fox," and I remember it well because I used to take my kids there. Later, Berg went into broadcasting and migrated to Denver. I never had the opportunity to hear his show, but I was terribly shaken by his murder.

12. Correct...and I think he made a few enemies in Chicago also....
I remember that he loved his Airedale dog...But, he was simply intimidating to people over the radio, friend or foe. If someone said something stupid, or if Alan thought it was stupid, it didn't matter if they were a liberal or conservative, he would jump square into their shit. People that thought they were in agreement with him would end up being roasted. No one knew where he was going to come down when they called his show. He was totally unpredictable and entertaining. Most of the time, he was right.

8. Maybe I'm thinking of an Allen Burke
or Alan Burke, or it could well be Alan Berg. This guy had a TV show on the weekends usually around maybe 10:30 p.m. in the circa '66 - '68 timeframe and had some really great topics. I remember liking his show. A lot of it was political (liberal), but I can't really remember anything ini particular.

10. I like Randi

and respect her awesome attention to facts.

But I sure miss Mike Malloy. Each personality has their own style which I feel is an asset. Another possible program would be a program with Mike Malloy and Peter Werbe, they would make a wonderful good cop/bad cop pair. (Actually this is not my idea; I recall Mike Malloy mention this contrast and potential on his program).

11. I think you are referring to the Alan Burke Show
I used to watch him on TV in the 70's. He was a hoot if you like really rude intellectuals. He called the set for the show his living room, and members of the audience would get up to ask him questions, and then he would proceed to rip them apart.

He also had a pet lion, which he occasionally brought with him on the show.

A friend of mine worked for him down in Miami. He didn't put up with anyone's bullshit, but if you were good at your doing your job, he would treat you fairly.
