Woodward's account: the most appalling thing to me
isn't that W thinks he's some kinda bloody world Messiah with a direct line to the Almighty.

and it isn't that he illegally diverted funds from Afganistan to Iraq.

and it isn't even that he worked out a deal with Bandahr.

or that he only decided to let his own Secretary of State know about the plan for war, almost as an afterthought.

All of these are horrific and damning enough.

But what hit me was that he allowed the most Top Secret plans for a war, complete with goddam MAPS to be seen by a foreign agent. Plans for a war where our young people are dying every fucking day. And he allowed the PLANS to be reviewed by another country, and a country that not only was not going to HELP with that war, but the very same goddam country that spawned the maniacs that flew planes into our buildings and slaughtered 3,000 innocents.

Words fail me, and that's pretty rare.

1. pretty fuggin' appalling, ain't it?
There are at least three or four solid grounds for impeachment there, and you've articulated them above.

3. Depressing isn't it? We got the wrong guy in there. Thats for sure
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 12:56 AM by opihimoimoi
How in the world is he still there?

and worse, unless we small guys overcome their big bucks campaign, we get him for another 4 years.

Work hard, spread the word, give money, support your Dem Candidates, do something, even pray, hope and wish. I am contacting all my friends to share this aspect.

Good insight.

6. Un-friggin-believable, isn't it?
This is the most damning of all the damning things that Bush has done. Sends Rummy and Cheney to lay the whole plan out to Bandar. Showed him the intel that was marked specifically NOT to be shown to foreigners. I mean, how the hell do they justify this? Bandar's people paid the hijackers. Most of them were Saudis. This makes me just want to scream and throw things. I am furious. He's supposed to be protecting us, for crissakes, NOT SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY. The bastards.

There better be some serious outrage among the masses and a huge voter turnout in November. If there isn't, we are screwed. Bush is a religious fanatic and his staff kiss his ass just enough to keep the charade up, making him think that he is doing the Lord's work. Meanwhile, all of them raid the treasury and steal our rights and then go on a road trip, bringing their "democracy express" to the downtrodden of the world. Afghanistan was the first stop on the tour, that didn't work out too well, and the second stop, in Iraq, is falling apart before their eyes. (Yet, undaunted, on they roll, claiming that the press is just focusing on the negative aspects, and ignoring the positive ones.) And on the propaganda machine rolls......

10. I agree on the impeachment....
But the dems don't control any of the houses.....So it's up to the repgus to impeach their own...What are the chances?? About zero in my opinion.

14. This is not the time for impeachment.
This is the time to vote them out, investigate their record and send them to prison.

A push to impeach could set up a strong backlash. We're convinced, but wait for the proof that an American public will comprehend. If it happens soon, the election is ours. If not, it will be dismissed by the public.

15. that is true, and I agree
the instances are, nonetheless, impeachable. Whether or not there is time for proceedings, or if a backlash would result are different issues.

17. Whichever strategy
puts these monsters in a heavy duty prison works for me. Have any of our Democrats had anything to say on this subject yet? It can not be allowed to fall into the memory hole, I saw nothing further in my local rag today.

16. Had it been Clinton, impeachment would be under way right now.
And the very assholes in the Congress who will be trying to cover for Bush would be making up the House Managers.

19. We must get him out of office in November so that we can..
klet the games begin. I'm talking about investigations resulting in treason convictions. Impeachment is too good for him. Impeachment is no punishment for his crimes.

21. What stuns me
is that Karen Hughes, along with Condoleeza, was who he asked for advice in whether the US should go to war. Hughes is just a former TV reporter.

23. In the hands of someone else, that would be less stunning.
Past presidents have asked for the advice of people they trusted but who weren't military or diplomatic authorities, just to help remind themselves of the human factor involved.

Hughes problem isn't having been a TV reporter, it's what she's been doing since then.
