...that raises his stock in my eyes a few points. That's DEFINATELY something we need to "out" now, pre-emptively. It also illustrates and highlights the unnaturally close relationship BushCo has with the House of Saud.

that alone has been a deal for them to even have kerry talking on air.

firstly

second, yesterday his meet the press, saw it on nbc, and then twice on msnbc, 3 and 9 p.m. that was good. lots of time for people to hear kerry talk

also he just said book for bushco people, other republicans not bushco people, and they are running over to his side fast. that was smooth and a high five, not a dig not a na na na na na, just a statement

16. Go, Kerry, Go!
One thing that really ticks me off about Kerry is that we know he's got a huge pair of brass ones (sorry for the metaphor but it works here) but they seem to hid in his butt most of the time.

Come on Kerry! Show us the big ones and give us the leadership that we are dying for!

I'm sick of weak leadership in the Democrats, and Kerry has a real opportunity in this election to help forge a strong Democratic party. Show us you have balls and we'll follow you!

that CNN was one of the WORST offenders at giving time to Bush, while Kerry got a few minutes.

So their sins are out there now. MAYBE they will have to be FAIR about giving time to Kerry.

LET'S KEEP THE PRESSURE ON.

Excellent example of how biased coverage is. 12 hours for Bush vs. 3 hours for Kerry.

MSNBC was the worst of the bunch, IIRC.

I mean, I'm GLAD he's talking about the secret oil deals with the Saudis, but I'm hoping this $700 million question gets some interest.

42. He needs to spell this out better, Bush = High Oil Prices
Kerry needs to go further. By timing the lower prices for the election, there is no need for lower prices after the election, so in effect, Bush is supporting the artificial drive up of oil prices!

These people need to get under oath. I know a few of them would rat each other out by now.

28. He might want to point out some other smelly bushco items.
I think they gain weight in the public mind when tied to the easily understood low/high gas price fixing:

(1) The redacted Saudi section of the intel report, which Senator Shelby (R) et many al. said should be released.

(2) Pork Chop Boy's energy papers. (Bwaahahahahahah! )

(3) A fresh war plan is about as top secret as it gets, and for Shrub to show a Saudi prince US secrets marked "NOFORN" shows clearly that for the BFEE, the Saudi money boys are not foreigners, not even the Bin Laden bunch. The whole web of them are citizens of the state of Disgrace.

31. it's just a metaphor...
... and a popular one at that. Don't read anything deep into it. It's a way of saying that Kerry should stand up and be vocal and strong. Something he's known for not doing all the time.

We need strong leadership in this party, we need someone with moxie, will, and drive. We also need to understand that we are not comprised of intellectual "elites" (*'s word) who dance around with beautiful language in a country where many are illiterate. And if we are going to win this one, we need joe six pack's vote. There are many people in the US who respond to feelings that metaphor conjures up.

Yes, it's a misogynist and pig-ish, metaphor. However, we live in a nation that is still extremely misogynist, and the fight for equality is waining fast as the feminists (and other like groups) are in the process of re-defining themselves and their goals. Does that mean such a metaphor should be acceptable? No it doesn't, but none the less it is acceptable to a large portion of the nation who would be hard pressed to give you a proper definition of misogyny.

37. You make some good points but perhaps we could try to start to change
the anti-feminine attitude of the populace here on DU. I don't think most DUers are Joe Sixpack types and the metaphor really does upset a lot of women here.

41. which is totally understandable...
... my intention is to not offend, and it is an important issue to be sure. I'm fully aware of my limitations, and actions. I'd like to point out that I've married a feminist, and she's one of the few who still proudly calls herself a feminist.

People get caught up in the heat of the moment, and Kerry showing moxie fires me up. And when that occurs, people (and myself especially) have a tendency to react in an emotional base and aren't as guarded about their speech and how it may or may not offend some segments of the body politic. So, I made a post that could be seen as in-sensitive towards women by using a tired male metaphor, and for those who were offended, please accept my appology.

However, I believe that my point, beyond the minutia of the tired metaphor, is still valid. Kerry needs to get some dirt on him in this election. Gore tried to avoid it, and it got him nowhere with middle America and the blue-collar vote. I think, had Gore, fought with fire and a bit of dirt the 2000 election would not have been so close. He came off as seeming weak, (and we know he wasn't), it cost him and it still costs us today.

Also, I wasn't trying to say that most DUers are Joe Six Pack, what I was trying to say is that Joe Six Pack lives outside the realm of DU, and candidates have to be mind full of that if they ever want the chance at Six Pack's vote.

34. We need a metaphor for INTEGRITY, not boldness. That's a challenge.
Sorry for the additional linguistic concerns, but gender and family framing are primal and relevant to describing community as an extended family. And shorthand words are part of clear communication. Think of the political charge in the expression 'family values.'

You might be uncomfortable with attributing aggression with testosterone and testes but that is biology science. Not sure how to get around that one factually. Especially when two men are competing for a leadership positon. Straight out of our evolutionary primate heritage.

We could call Bush* a 'deadbeat dad' for not responsibly and competently taking care of the American family.

But what do you call a man who accuses him of this crime? Hmmmm.
All the competitive metaphors and similes are war and sports stuff.

How about using education lingo to image wisdom, intellect, teaching, nurturing, progress. All that liberal progressive stuff that is the opposite of Mr "what's the difference" Bush*?

Suggestion: Replace testes with 'apples.' This combines all these images-testes, apple for the teacher, biblical fruit of knowledge, apple a day keeps the doctor away, Mom and apple pie, and more.

So 'apples' is a morphing of testes + knowledge = bold wisdom.
So imagine saying: "He's really showing his apples."
What do you think?

39. Actually, I have witnessed what testosterone does.
I saw with my own eyes what a shot of the stuff did to a male. It made him very silly and happy--not bold or courageous.

And don't you think "spine" is a good substitute? (or backbone)

44. Careful with the bio-metaphors, lest we create a pissing contest. (;-)
Wes Clark used (and embodied) a word that struck a chord with me: LEADERSHIP.

Sometimes "higher standard of leadership".

And as aWol's snout lengthens, "honest leadership" takes on a certain ring.

the freepers are quaking at the implications:

"No, the damning thing was that we let Bandar see the war plans, and that we made a deal with Bandar to manipulate the oil markets vis a vis the November elections.
This better be untrue, or the President is in trouble. The american people will not tolerate the Saudis meddling in our affairs."
