What happens if Iraq fails to sign on to a “status of forces” agreement?

Once sovereignty is passed to the Iraqi people our services people will be in Iraq at the pleasure of the Iraqi Government. The purpose of “status of forces” agreement sets forth rights and responsibilities between the United States and the host government on such matters as criminal and civil jurisdiction, the wearing of the uniform, the carrying of arms, tax and customs relief, entry and exit of personnel and property, and resolving damage claims. Without such agreement our troops will be subject to Iraqi law.

It occurred to me this afternoon, that any Iraqi politician with ambitions for a higher role in the future of Iraq will never sign on to such an agreement. This is going to place US troops in a very precarious position after June 30th.

1. The US will dictate the terms to the puppet gummint.
And as more of the "coalition" pulls out, the US troops will be in an even more precarious position.

3. The "fix" will be in before the Quislings are announced.
They won't turn "control" over to anyone until they have a pre-arranged understanding. Bet on it.
