Why did we think America is ready to accept a foreigner for a First Lady?
I heard Teresa Heinz in an interview with her thick foreign accent and was surprised her accent is so strong.

Before you jump on me, I am foreign with a thick accent but I do know that after 9/11, America does not want a foreigner near that White House, far less a First Lady who is foreign.

To top it off, she was explaining in the interview that she would have been stupid not to get a pre-nuptial agreement before getting married.

Folks, this could be another problem we have to deal with!

1. If it is, you can pretty much forget any run for the Presidency...
...from Jeb. Hell, to some people Kerry has an accent.

for a bright, committed, educated, outspoken first lady. The last one now calls herself Senator.

10. What about Laura?
She's educated, and may wind up committed if she doesn't loosen up a bit. And I'm still hoping for the outspoken meltdown, where she reveals what Bush has REALLY done to her. But they won't let her near a camera, and probably for that reason.

Bush's is fake, and he got almost-elected.

She's fine. People will think it's cute after awhile. We wouldn't get the racist xenophobe vote anyway.

5. no way-- She is wonderful!
we need a little more cosmopolitan feel in the WH. May make a few people less "nationalistic"

We haven't had style and grace in a first lady since Jackie O (my apologies to Hilary, she is smart and tough but style wasn't her strong point)

Pick up Newsweek. She was a stay at home wife to her first REPUBLICAN husband and remained Rep until last year. (she doesn't like abortion but remains pro-choice)

It wasn't even a divorce. The man that give her the millions died. How conservative of her! (she earned her money the old fashioned way, inheritance)

The freeps are barking up the wrong tree.

23. They would rag Kerry's wife if she was a former Miss Murika...
They would rag kerry if he was single and dating someone. They would rag kerry if he was single and devoted to his pets and lived a Monastic existence. They would rag Kerry if he was widoed. They would rag Kerry if he had been married and his wife sought an annulment and took Vows....

In short, they would even find some reason to rag Kerry if he choked on his dinner and...

He has the AUDACITY to run against Saint George of GAWD, and that's all the reason they need.

34. Big deal.
"Those people" can't stand intelligent, cultured, independent and stylish in any sex, much less a woman like Teresa Heinz Kerry. The love they lavish on Midland's "Ms. Manslaughter of whatever year" with her frozen face and frumpy attire, who can't seem to get above third grade level in reading material ought to tell you something.

As for the pre-nup, what do "those people" know about complicated things like inheritances, trusts, separate property anyway? Mrs. Kerry has a resposibility to her children and to the estate of her dead husband. She seems to recognize that. More power to her.

This is the kind of poop one sees from those who cannot debate the issues...maybe it's because their noses are still caught in the Big Dog's zipper. Ya think?

39. Oh, they are definitely cooking up a special hell for her............
Notice they say nothing now?? Get ready about Septemberish. This is the trademark of the Bushs. Papa let everyone know that Kitty Dukakis was a DRUNK. They let everyone know that McCain's wife was ON DRUGS AND WINK, WINK WHERE DID THAT KID COME FROM. They made Hillary a national symbol of EVIL (Salon traced all the various 'Clinton scandles' a few years ago and they all ended up leading right back to Papa's front door). These big brave macho men "go for the women" and publicly destroy them. I keep praying we have comebacks--or first strikes. How about let's look into Laura's fatal car crash where late at night with no one on the road she just happened to hit broadside and kill her former boyfriend who was in that other car. Or, how about the emergency appendectomy the blonde twin had when he was on the campaign trail and neither he no Laura ever flew there to be with her during it or after, etc. (give me an A B O R----get the idea). It's going to come down to that and I'll bet everything I own that "it's coooooming". I think Theresa could give Barbara a run for her money though in defending her family. The first thing they should say is "I'm not running one of the biggest state's in the nation with my 'foreign' accent".

43. We've already had a foreign born First Lady
Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams

Only First Lady born outside the United States, Louisa Catherine Adams did not come to this country until four years after she had married John Quincy Adams. Political enemies sometimes called her English. She was born in London to an English mother, Catherine Nuth Johnson, but her father was American--Joshua Johnson, of Maryland--and he served as United States consul after 1790.

A career diplomat at 27, accredited to the Netherlands, John Quincy developed his interest in charming 19-year-old Louisa when they met in London in 1794. Three years later they were married, and went to Berlin in course of duty. At the Prussian court she displayed the style and grace of a diplomat's lady; the ways of a Yankee farm community seemed strange indeed in 1801 when she first reached the country of which she was a citizen. Then began years divided among the family home in Quincy, Massachusetts, their house in Boston, and a political home in Washington, D.C. When the Johnsons had settled in the capital, Louisa felt more at home there than she ever did in New England.
