Just look at these pictures.

Now, imagine their propaganda value if they had been taken during Saddam's rule.

Iraq is occupied by an out-of-control foreign power. It needs liberating. Hell, it was good enough for Kuwait. What's different now, except, in every respect, this is a worse outrage?

Think the international community should come to the aid of the US? Bullshit. It needs to give the US an ultimatum. And if it doesn't quit Iraq, there ought to be a flotilla en route to the Persian Gulf to kick its ass out.

It's absurd, of course. But only because the US military is bulked up enough to make it absurd. Not because it shouldn't happen.

1. Powell lied to the UN
...and then the Bush Junta sneered and said they were irrelevant and they didn't need their help and invaded nearly unilaterally.

When the whole thing predictably blew up in their faces, they sent IDIOT to the UN to beg for help. He was arrogant and insulting beyond belief, and the civilized nations of the UN told him to stick it where the sun never shines.

The UN will NEVER aid this arrogant bunch of thieves and thugs. The only way we can possibly get their help is THROW THE BUSH GANG OUT OF POWER. The only way we can regain our stature in the world is to CHARGE AND TRY THE BUSH GANG FOR TREASON AND WAR CRIMES.

This is what's ahead of us, folks. The UN will NOT help this arrogant monkey.

2. Brahimi's trying to do just what you're advocating...
Lakdahr Brahimi, the UN envoy to Iraq who is trying to help the Iraqis in forming a new government, is now coming under fire from the US and the US-appointed governing council.

Why? Because he had the audacity to suggest three things. First, he said that for a new government to have any legitimacy, it must have full sovereignty. This angered the US because he was basically telling the US to bugger off with their plans for setting up a puppet regime. Second, he has said that the interim council has no place in a new Iraqi government, a statement that has drawn Ahmed "The Snake" Chalabi out of his rathole to denounce Brahimi as trying to impose "Arab nationalism" on Iraq. Third, he has correctly identified the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories as a huge impediment to achieving real peace in the region, especially with regards to the US trying to impose its will on whatever Iraqi government comes into being.

All of this was discussed in detail on Democracy Now this morning. I wouldn't look for it in any of the papers, but it will still be interesting to see how it all plays out. Apparently Brahimi is trying to actually propose what's best for the Iraqi people as opposed to the United States, and we all know that the current administration can't stand that kind of treachery.

3. Thanks, that's good to know.
I wonder how much recognition the puppet regime will receive.

4. If the government is formed by strictly following Brahimi's advice...
My prediction is that it probably won't be seen as illegitimate. I think that most of the Iraqis recognize what Brahimi is trying to do here.

I also would predict that should things follow this course, Ahmed Chalabi will either be exiled to London once again, or his head will be displayed on a pike in Baghdad.
