We have lost the war on terror
Before, 9/11, they were pissed that we had army bases in saudi arabia (the holy land).
Now, they have many, many more reasons to HATE us.

George Bush's insane actions and policies will spur thousands of new OBLs.

may god help us all.

1. its impossible to win an abstract war...
like the war on terror, or the war on drugs, ect...

all people, have within them the capacity to create terror... the only way to eliminate terror from the earth is to eliminate all people. and then... well we all lose dont we?

8. exactly my point
in fact its about the only possible outcome. cause in wars like that, the intent is well meaning but, in this war on terror... by doing things like we are in Iraq, we are just galvanizing support for what we are fighting. we are only creating more terrorists.

9. The 'War On Terror' itself is terror.
As we are seeing, all it accomplishes is escalating events.

5. That is damn good point
Also, I have two problems with the war on terror.

We cannot keep declaring war on things instead of nations. Its just nuts. It perpetuates an endless war and a constant military industrial complex. You can never win completely a war on terror. We still fight in America a police based effort against organized crime and the KKK. These orgs are not as powerful as they use to be but the "war" is not won nor ever will be. Either this becomes a red herring to continue to spend outrageous amounts of money on defense everytime Lockheed Martin is short of cash OR it becomes political fodder when we cripple terrorism for some idiot to declare the war is "won" and then we find ourselves lulled into a false sense of security right before another attack.

Also, only the Congress has the power to declare war. I am tired of Congress ditching its Congressional duty and hiding behind the executive branch. I do not care who does it. I do not care if it is in the Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Raygun or Bush eras. It always sucks. If we are going to war, our duly elected representatives in Congress need to have the balls to declare war. Instead they shirk their duty and become cowards to politics.

Just my take.

11. Kick
:kick:

I may only add: <snip>
"You can never win completely a war on terror."

Major corporate sponsors are banking on the idea that this war will never end.

6. So sad
We had such an oppertunity to become the focus of the world after 9/11. We could have been seen as a stand up country that knew what to do in the face of attacks. Instead, we attacked a country that not only had nothing to do with it, but whose leader and OSB HATE each other.

7. I'm not so concerned that "they" hate us.
I'm more concerned with trends. The House of Saud is shaky. Iraq is at a turning point. It could result in another despot like Saddam eventually emerging or it could end as another regime like Iran. That's assuming we lack the fortitude to stay the course in Iraq.

The only thing sure is the Middle East will never be the same again and is changing before Our eyes. We're probably seeing an historic situation that can either tip toward a better life for the multitudes or create a situation that results in ever increasing damages of any kind you'd consider, whether that would be the impact on the global economy from a long lasting disruption of oil production to the losses of more personal freedoms as sovereign governments enact more restrictive regulations to ferret out terrorists.

10. well, there has NEVER BEEN A
"War on Terror"

it is as empty a phrase as "Clean Skies" or "Leave No Child"

it doesn't exist.

and it doesn't exist because there is NO PROFIT in it.

"Endless War" makes $$$ for chimpco.

but, it's not something they're really fighting, and if they were actually fighting it, they would have NO intention of winning it.

no $$$ in no WAR.

like Randi said today: if * "wins" again, we'll have more wars than press conferences

13. You evil terrorist is my scrappy freedom fighter
Not only can you not win a war against an abstraction such as terrorism, but terrorism will never go away because it is a logical form of warfare against a foe with superior numbers and technology. Just think of the movie "Home Alone." Everyone cheers the terrorist when he's a cute little blond boy. Or what about "Star Wars"? In the movie world it's considered heroic to use unconventional, guerrilla tactics to defeat the evil empire.
