1. Don't worry
All the businessmen who love Bush and want him to have a strong economy going into the election will enact a buying spree sometime in June or July.

13. Sorry, but that's laughable.
The stock market started going down in March 2000, about the time investors started to realize Bush started to pull ahead in the polls. 'Pundits' kept claiming the reason it was dropping was because people were afraid Bush would NOT get elected. From Nov-Dec 2000, it moved sideways as pundits kept claiming the same thing. When Shrub was selected, the market proceeded to being it's prolonged 4 year slump.

Investors aren't pro- or anti- Bush. They are in the market to make money. Bush's reckless spending policies have driven a hole in the US budget that will take years and years to fix.

3. May-Oct is Historically the Down Season
and interest rate fears are growing. Not just about the chance of an increase -- that's pretty much a certainty -- but how many and how much.

I remember rates being 3-4 points higher than they are now in 2004. If that happens, that will really put a dent in the housing market and the economy in general.

4. Wow and the futures for the Dow right up to the opening...
...bell were trading for the Dow to hit 10,000 today. I wonder where it will end up? Interest rates (mortgages) rising, inflation tracking at 2.7% and upward pressures on costs from oil and energy, Rumsfeld under attack, BushCo could implode, elevated violence in Iraq, British ready to withdraw for Bush coalition, on and on. The stock market does not like news of this kind delivered by the truck-loads. The bears are up on their hind legs I believe.

6. We lost the world's confidence
Edited on Mon May-10-04 09:52 AM by Jack_Dawson
We were supposed to be the one "rock" in this world. Now the pix prove even WE can't get it together and as a result, we've shattered the world's confidence in us. Nice work G-dub.

15. It's the Pie-Hole Effect!
First postulated by our own beloved radfringe when she ran the Market Watch thread over in LBN. It was later giggled over by the talking heads on CNN until it made their Corporate Overlords nervous that the truth was getting out.
