1. Last few weeks the saddest he's ever seen
Coming from a permanently injured Vietnam veteran, that's pretty strong.

5. But the Viet Cong never humiliated him.
Never abused him sexually.

I dunno. But that sounds like one hell of an indictment to me.

18. Agreed. When he made that point it really stood out to me too.
He is clearly very troubled by all of this. If all of the Repugs were like him the world would be a better place.

2. Nothing helps the cause of democracy more than one of their own speaking
out against what their own party has done. That is what I respect about McCain. I may disagree with him on much, but he speaks out when he feels it is warranted.

3. Not just sergeants and enlisted officers.
What an interesting conversation for a late night talk show.

Leno has Seinfeld.

6. I'd cut him some slack..
Edited on Wed May-12-04 11:11 PM by girl gone mad
since he isn't a journalist, just a talk show host, though he does come across as artificial to me sometimes.

11. ever since 9/11
Letterman has been more and more willing to have serious guests and talk about serious issues.

Letterman knows what's going on in the world, for God's sake. His questions show he follows the news and thinks about the world and our place in it.

16. I can't think of a Chris Matthews interview . . .
. . . that I have enjoyed more than the one I just watched Letterman do. Letterman was to the point, yet unabrasive and non-confrontational. Damn good!

13. Why does he sound like he's campaigning????
He's everywhere now. Dare I say it, but it sounds like he's running for a VP position.

20. VP?...........nah
He's running for President on the Republican ticket. They're going to need a candidate and they already know that Bush is done. He's coming down and McCain will run in the next election.

The military is not going down because of this bunch of criminals. It's either them or Bush and guess who's gonna win.

22. Don't say such beautiful things.....
Literally it's too late for McCain to run. And yet he's out there...alot....during campaign year.....for no reason as a man who supposedly is not involved in the two prospective administrations.

Doesn't that make you wonder just a little???

21. I don't see it that way
He is the voice of reason. Due to his past and the position he holds now, he has extreme credibility.

Letterman was awesome tonight. His questions were excellent and sincere. This interview reached a part of society that most likely doesn't tune in to the Sunday morning conflabs.

23. A republican is always a voice of reason compared to a neocon...
but why is he so damn visible these days? during a campaign year? he's a senator for heaven's sake...certainly he has a motive for his very public appearances lately.

24. Because he is on a book tour
His new book....Why Courage Matters....just came out, & he is all over doing interviews, book signings, etc. He was in N.Y. last nite for a book party.

I think he is so connected emotionally to the military, he feels it is his duty to speak out during the war, & with the on-going scandals.

Finally, he likes to irk Bush & Rove. He is very popular with the media, & they all like to have him on their shows, & everytime he shows up, it gives Bush acid reflux.

14. Wow!!!
Impressive piece!!!!!

Dave is OK!!!

Sorry, I like John McCain. To be brutally honest, I donated to his primary campaign in 2000 to DEFEAT Dubya! I still have my McCain 2000 hat, but I don't think I've ever worn it in public!!!

15. better interview than you see
on Nightline... i have to disagree on one thing Mcain said though.

He is under the false impression that we punish people when they get caught for wrongdoings, this only applies to the little people these days.

17. Letterman did a WONDERFUL interview!!!
Especially for his time slot/audience. It was interesting, not too hard to follow (for those less informed), and not overtly partisan, considering how people judge Letterman to be a liberal. McCain was respectful, forthright, and not afraid to be somewhat critical of the B* admin. If only McCain and Ron Paul could be cloned in place of lesser Repugs.

25. McCain's a good man.
He's taken some positions that make me angry, but for the most part he's in the right place.

I actually donated to his campaign in 2000 (didn't want to see that bastard Bush get the nomination).
