14. are you serious?
The second line on her site reads (and I quote):

"Please donate to fund the current investigation."

On the right-hand side of the main page on her site there's a button labelled (and I quote):

"Make a Donation"

Clicking that button takes you to a page where you can make a payment (to fund the unspecified "current investigation", whatever that may be). You'll note that the same button can be found in the top-left corner of the main page of her site; in fact the very first thing on the site is actually the donation button.

It's not just on her site -- do a quick search for any of her recent threads on this site. Almost every one of them asks for money as well.

I'm not passing judgment, mind you. Just reiterating that she seems to appreciate support in the form of cold, hard cash. I think "small, unmarked bills" are customary. ;)

18. Yes, I'm serious.
I'm immune to advertisements, lol. I am incredibly expert at tuning them out. Seriously, I'm sure she does appreciate the cash. I know the number of BBV books she sells will not pay for the time, expense, and work she's put into the issue. I've just never received a direct suggestion for donations in the time I've spent chatting, etc.

I haven't checked the site since I read this thread; I'll have to check in over there.

37. Accounting:
Edited on Thu May-20-04 12:24 PM by BevHarris
I received $1,785 in donations for the security problems and legal problems that resulted from this misdirection of an investigation. My direct costs to date are about $1,950 for legal fees and hard drive backups. I give my heartfelt thanks to those who supported me, as I could not possibly have come up with that kind of money on my own.

Now I am supposed to add other attorneys who have specializations. It really pisses me off. I doubt that I will. I also doubt that I will agree to this damn gag order much longer.

Bev

I didn't know about you or your site before this post (got most of my Diebold knowledge through greg Palast) but will certainly take a look now. Can't see the feds caring too much about me - after all as a non US citizen they don't need to find a way to prevent me voting.

Best of luck - aren't you glad you live in the land of the free

6. poor Bev, (Hi Agent Mike) this is what the repubs do
they will cost her so much money in lawyers and time in court she will be effectively silenced. They tried it with Greenpeace but thankfully the judge threw it out, but not before they had to run up a lot of lawyer fees that could have been used for activism

12. That's quite a distraction. I bet it's keeping her from getting ready for
November.

It's also amazing the extent the Federal Gov't is going to protect the interests of Diebold (it looks like they're doing this to find the Diebold memo leaker/hacker and it really doesn't have much to do with VoteHere).

It kind of reminds me of waiting around to see what Ashcroft's first big prosecution was going to be. Anyone remember? He prosecuted people who were cheating McDonalds on one of those stupid promo scratch card games they do.

He was barely protecting consumers. He was basically protecting the integrity of McDonald's marketing schemes. (Isn't Ashcroft Christian? Isn't he supposed to be morally opposed to games of chance?)

So, with BBV, we have the possiblity of a real serious crime, and where's your Federal gov't's attention focused? On finding the person who blew the cover on it so they can (I presume) prosecute that person.

That's real nice. I have such great confidence in democracy. Damn. At least I know that my chances of winning a scratch card game at McDonalds is really 1 in 100,000. That's reassuring.

26. They are threatening the wrong person....
"....voting software company in Bellevue, reported that a hacker broke into its computer network. VoteHere founder and Chief Executive Officer Jim Adler says, “We didn’t think it was a big deal.” Adler confirms, however, that the FBI and the Secret Service are investigating the matter. “A crime is a crime is a crime,” he points out. Adler says there was evidence that the hacker was politically motivated and was involved somehow in the leak of internal documents at Diebold—although he will not discuss specifics, at the request of federal law enforcement agencies."

First of all, VoteHere doesn't really know if it was a hacker or inside access. That is all conjecture on Adler's part until proven. Now, just why would Adler KNOW the hacker was politically motivated? Many hackers just do it to prove they can, how often to we see a political motivation for that kind of thing? And even better, how would Adler KNOW that the alleged hacker was involved in the leak of the Diebold memos? What is not quoted in this article, but appeared in others at the time, was that they "watched" as the hacker snooped around, and that they know his NAME and where he LIVES.

Kind of begs the question of why they are investigating Bev for the VoteHere alleged hack, doesn't it? I mean, Adler told them he knew who the guy was an where he lived. And, oh, how could it be that Adler would know who the Diebold memo leaker was such that he would tie that with the alleged VoteHere hack?

And if you remember, at the time this happend Bev had no access to her BBV.org, it was down, out of her control.

So, hey, agent Mike? Why are you hassling people who don't have a clue about the alleged hack, when Adler seems to have ALL the information including the Diebold information although we know you're really just investigating the alleged VoteHere hack? :hi:

17. Duh...

When the government does something illegal you can:

1. Appeal to the courts, stacked with right-wing judges.

2. Appeal to Congress, the majority of whom seem to be there courtesy of black box voting shenanigans.

3. Wonder why they have immunity for enormous and heinous crimes, when you can't even get immunity for jaywalking.

4. Put your faith in a system so corrupt that you don't much dare do anything but put your faith in some faith-based something or other.

About 15 years ago I read an article (in the New Yorker?) by somebody who was monitoring a foreign election and suddenly started getting two feeds, one with the real numbers, and one with the numbers for public consumption. I told a friend at the time that if it was happening there, it was also happening here.

I just read Bev's book a few days ago, went to the site, and found the DU link there. For somebody my age who never does much but read books and play bingo online to be back on the subversive list is quite a privilege.

I am extremely thankful that Bev is a truthful person, because there was that case with Martha somebody from TV that was based on something that had nothing to do with the case in which Martha was not found guilty, but was untrue and spoken during questioning by a federal agent. Apparently in those fishing trips, if they are investigating a crime, no matter how irrelevant to their question about whether you had yogurt for dinner last night, if you say you didn't when you did, or vice versa, you can go to jail for a real long time, often longer than if you had been convicted for the crime they claim to have been investigating. Unless you're a Republican, of course. Then you can lie to fedeal agents, the public, the Supreme Court, Congress, and the world, and nobody can touch you.

What the fuck is next? Do they have Joe Mccarthy in cryogenic suspension, just waiting for the perfect time to revive him and start the witch hunts all over again?

The people of this country have an ABSOLUTE RIGHT to know that the voting process is as accurate and reliable as it can possibly be. Without that, we are nothing but a dictatorship. Bev is doing a huge and patriotic service for the nation by exposing these scoundrels.

Bev, If you are out there reading this, God bless, keep your chin up and keep up the good work. I'll get something together to help out next payday.
