I had a dream
Last night. We have seen various forms of protest against the torture situation in Iraq. I say torture as that is what it is - and I find it disturbing how we see different media and government attempt to play down the seriousness by using the word abuse. Just as saying having "forced sex" upon a prisoner....why don't we call it what it is - RAPE.

Anyways, back to my dream. We were protesting in DC. It was a significant size and every single protester, every single one was hooded in black with nothing else on except a black poncho. (just liek the fellow standing on the box with electrodes) As the protest grew, more and more people joined, utterly silent in their march. The march itself was utterly silent - and the specatcle spoke volumes in its silent protest.

We gathered around the White House (well as close as the authorities would allow us). The media was there trying to get statements and the authorities were warning us to disperse - but the louder they got, the more aggressive they became, the more black hooded people arrived. The last image of my dream was of more than 300 thousand souls?(it was black hooded people as far as the eye could see) convened on the White house lawn, with military helicopters hovering.

There were no signs to read. There were no speeches. It was humanity stepping forward to show the world its displeasure at how we treat other human beings. The silence against the bullhorns of authorities demanding we retreat was deafening. Oh well - that was my dream.

Maybe the dream meant that we, as Americans, have put up with the lies and coverup for too long and now we must let them know we will no loger tolerate these killings. Before the internet many things could be covered up, we could be fooled, but no more. Silence speaks more than words sometimes. What a very powerful dream. Let's make it come true. We haven't come far at all from our own recent history of lyncing and even then the people responsible were angry that laws were passed to make it a crime. Good lord, people would take their kids and have picnics, because if you weren't white, you were sub-human. These attitudes die hard even though the same people go to church and teach their kids that Jesus loves the little children, red, brown, yellow, black, and white.

4. I am not really sure how to interpret it
It was unlike any other protest I had ever encountered, participated in, or heard of. Perhaps it is meant to give us an idea of the scope of how far Bush will go....a warning as such(if you are into interpreting dreams)

I will say it once more - the utter silence was deafening. There were no shouts, no calls, no speeches, no demands. There were no signs to read. There was no music. I think it was an appeal to show what we are doing right now to human beings. There was no condemnation - just a silent show of thousands of hooded people.

I cannot say I woke up inspired to give make this protest reality....the spectacle was almost too painful. I will say this though - if there were those who were more organized in making this a reality, I would be there, naked except for a poncho and hood. I would make that silent stand, that silent protest against what we are doing, against what we are becoming.

2. Yes
that's what should be done. We should all go to Washington wearing black and not say a word.

5. This is a great idea.
Why not do this in New York at the Republican convention?

7. Wow. The description is chilling,
The reality would be even more so. I doubt people could seriously follow through on the silence, but I bet you could get a lot of people who would, and many who would be willing to be there. I, for one, would go.
