Americans are stupid
Edited on Fri May-21-04 12:55 AM by Snoggera
there is no other way to look at it.

America has watched, witnessed atrocities.

No more civil rights! No more Constitution!

okay.

Americans, as 5% of the world's population can tell the world what is right and what is wrong.

okay.

America is stupid. And so are most of the people living there.

How could this world happen?

stupid America.

Prove me wrong.

I think the media actively portray a particular kind of detached indifference to politics as respectable and in-fashion. Voters take pride in not really researching the candidates, taking appraisals based on 'character', &c. More than this, as I mentioned in RKZ's thread, we have 'Yay, we're free! We don't have to fight for our rights anymore!' syndrome. People are increasingly ignorant about the sacrifices ordinary folks made for our current rights, and therefore as they are stolen away one by one, we don't even notice. If we went by the 1950s' standard, minimum wage would be somewhere near $12-15 an hour, for example. But nobody knows what a union is good for now, and those within the unions are increasingly incapable of making a difference in the leadership and direction of the big unions.

to correctly spell, and haven't said a word.

If I make a mistake does that change the point of what I'm saying or only allow ignorant people to point it out without responding?

22. I love the thing ,you spell bad so I will not hear or read what you say.
Their are a lot of people in this world that are not very well educated but who are very smart. You also need not speak English to be able to reason very well. I learned that lesson at my mother's knee. I think every 'talk' with my husband started out with you said that word wrong and we never got at the root of our problem but I did learn a lot of words I said wrong. I hear a lot of very good reasoning on calls into c-span from people that do not put things in English very well.I think it is a shut mind that will not hear.

OK, Americans aren't stupid. They've been trained to not give a shit. Well-trained.

That having been said, I don't believe what my TV tells me. I don't believe what the polls tell me. I don't believe this jackass in the White House has the support the TV and polls tell me he does. I just don't fucking buy it.

beleive me we have plenty of them in Australia too.

*America had some of the largest anti-Iraq war protests
*America produced Noam Chomsky and Greg Palast
*America actually HAS a Bill of Rights (however much the current admin wants it trashed) plenty of us don't
*American journalists can say alot more without being sued than in UK/Australia

In my pre-internet days I found myself sliding into an "all americans are stupid" line of thought, but to be honest I think (even on a per capita basis) there are more Americans concerned about the state of the world than many other country's - you should see the eye ball rolling I encounter whenever I even mention some of the stuff discussed on DU and other political sites everyday

13. most people are to busy to be stupid..
thats what i truly believe..whether its a conspiracy government/corporate or just a sign of the times..the ability to take an active interest in world politics or national politics is diminishing as we work longer hours to maintain the lifestyles we believe we should be accorded..then on the other hand the propaganda systems are so firmly in place its somewhat easier to leave to the experts..

24. You're wrong.
We still have a Constitution. No administration has followed it to the T in over 70 years. Americans are not stupid. It's hard to have a decent economy with stupid workers. American workers are the most productive in the world, and arguably the most intelligent. I understand you are mad about the poll results but you sound just like a Republican with comments about "sheeple". That is what Republicans said after Bill Clinton was re-elected in 1996. "How could the sheeple be so stupid?", they cried.

Don't do it.

25. One day, an American said: "French is arrogant and dominator".
The question is : Of which French did he talk about ?

We could send back to you the compliment now, because the Bush's policy is arrogant and dominator. But you would think that's stupid.

I come on this site for more than a year and I don't feel to chat with stupid Americans. I didn't meet many of this American category in France, rather some ones relax, funny, curious... Ok they don't know often to tell "Please... Sorry... I would like to...." and this ticks off us.

But for to be honest, we met more "stupid" American here since some ones of them talk about policy. With the great question : "We helped you in 45, Why didn't France help us today for fighting Saddam and the terrorism ?". We can't dream better as stupid question.

26. Yes, your English is so perfect, you have every right to criticize -
What is your point? You're saying that American tourists in France, aside from the fact that their French is sub-par, are less-informed than the Americans who post at DU? Well, duh! What did you expect? You might poll the tourists at any local tourist attraction near you and see if they know as much as we do. Not likely.

30. I don't allege or claim I might poll American.
I spend very much time for my job in Paris and my co-workers and me (they're better in English language than me) meet some American tourists in the restaurants. It's always easy to chat with them and we like to do. But we don't meet hundreds of them, only some. We appreciate the American people because, I said it in my prior post, we feel them like very friendly and sympathetic.

We don't speak with many stupid American and we have equal chance to do with Democrate than with Republican. But, many many more of them need to talk about American policy since the French bashing is an US sport, that's a new fact, before the dialog about this subject was very rare. No doubt, if they're travelling in France they aren't afraid to be hit by some angry Frenchies ( ;-) ) or they love France enough to chance, and perhaps they aren't representative of the American majority ? Almost all of these tourists apologize for the WH asshole BUT curiously many of them think that Saddam and AQ were linked and the Iraq war is a legitimate revenge. Very rarely they ask the very stupid question about the lack of the French help.

people who refuse to learn are what they are- hairsplit semantics or use whatever words apply- but in the end, the results are the same.

And the undeniable fact is that a large majority of Americans either don't care (i.e. are willfully ignorant or sociopathic) or are too stupid to to figure out what's in their (and everyone else's) best interests.

It would be really nice if we could collectively crop dust large portions of the country with ground up portions of "the red pill," but we can't- so what we're left with is doing what we can- maybe reaching one or two at a time....
