McCain worries his colleagues could get killed in "tragic accidents"
Wellstone anyone/?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=6&u=/ap/20040520/ap_on_go_co/tax_cuts_budget

But that could be a tall order: Four moderate GOP senators and moderate Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska have all resisted weeks of entreaties to support the budget, leaving GOP leaders two votes shy of passage.

Asked what might make them change their minds, one of the moderates, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., joked, "Some of us could get killed in tragic accidents."

1. Maybe I'm reading too much into him remarks
There is something eerie about the attacks on people like David Souter though.

3. When Wellstone died...
apparently Capitol Hill was full of people who had no doubt he was silenced. John McCain is no fool, and to think that the * administration wouldn't do something like this is foolish.

8. I remember where I saw it, but the source isn't available online anymore..
so you'll just have to accept it as hearsay. It was written by someone who worked on The Hill, but wasn't actually a member of Congress.

2. McCain is moderate only in comparison to the rest of the GOP.
His lifetime American Conservative Union rating is 84 percent.

4. McCain Is Known For A Sense of Humor
I would take it as an attempt to make a joke.

9. It may be a joke,
but they all know what poppy and son are capable of. Daddy still has lots of friends at the CIA and they don't joke.

7. I think he was just
joking around. Saying that only death could make any of them change their minds. I don't think it was a reference to "if the WH killed one of us". I think it was a joke.
