OK, a Republican finally said something I agree with.
One of the Repugs on the panel investigating AbuGrate said that the press was paying too much attention to the scandal and should pay more attention to the war.

I agree--not ignore the scandal, of course, but the sheer incompetence, stupidity, deja-quagmire-vu all over again of this war has been sidelined to an extent by the torture scandal.

Yes, the Bushies are mean, renegades, they have turned the USA into a rogue nation. But they are also wildly, unimaginably, beyond our wildest nightmares incompetent. We can't let them turn this into a stern-jawed no mercy for terrorists Republican vs. internationalist, bleeding-heart Dems contest. It needs to be put center stage, every fucking day, how bone-numbingly dumb, how out of touch with reality, these geniuses and their sock puppet are.

There are no more reports of soldiers deaths--and May has been the 4th costliest month of the war.

What is the status of Fallujah? What about Najaf? What about all those generals who are calling our position there hopeless.

Abu Ghraib is a symptom of everything that is wrong there--not just a horrid but aberrant event.

1. I have been wondering too
what exactly is going on with casualties and everything else.

I have seen some polls suggesting some folks are tuning out the scandal. Its a big deal but you know the attention span of this nation. Plus the press tends desensitize people and to make things trivial at times by overplaying certain stories. Just ask Bill Clinton.

About the war, from the tidbits of info I see not that many soldiers are getting killed this month. Especially when compared to April when four or five deaths a day was the news for the entire month. It was horrible listening and watching troops die for this crazy invasion.

Now it seems we have been taking out a lot of Sadrs army. Great news for the troops but its been on the backpage.

2. I was thinking the same thing. . .
So for the first time I read the daily casualty thread that somebody posts on this board and whoever does it seems to be very thorough. I had never read it before because there were usually so many other threads about accidents, deaths, and explosions.

If memory serves, I think he said that the total was now over 780.

Sorry no link. Alas I'm not very proficient at searching for threads.

But check it out tomorrow.
