Mom just got back from Portsmouth VA memorial Parade
she met Kerry and shook his hand. I'm talking to her right now on the phone, she is so excited giving me all the info:

Some highlights:

She said he is much better looking in real life.

Said a secret service agent (or maybe an advance man--dark glasses, earphone, etc. She said she's not so sure) told her to hold up her Kerry sign after he saw somebody put up a Bush sign.

A whole bunch of signs reading "Republicans for Kerry."

Best sign: "No CARB (Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Bush) Also, No Rice."

Remember, this is NAVY country. Across the river from Norfolk. Ships docked just a couple of hundred yards down the river from Mom's home.

This is the oldest Memorial Day parade in the country.

5. thanks!
I think the last time she shook a president's* hand was when she worked on the JFK campaign...oh, hey...what a coincidence.

Perhaps she is a good luck charm.

*just doing a little forecasting.

3. Virginia is also INTEL territory. No doubt many in the intel community
are voting AGAINST the treasonous Bush and Cheney in November.

6. Bless your Mom,
I live in Va Beach and I thought I was the only Kerry supporter in the tidewater area. I guess I am not an endangered species after all.

8. You are definitely not alone
Most of my family lives in the tidewater area (Chesapeake, Va Beach, Norfolk and Portsmouth) and that bunch alone comes to about 30 people. BTW, we are also a huge Navy family.

Mom said it was packed.

Prodigal Green -- I was born in Portsmouth, and lived there off and on for 15 years (between Portsmouth and Brooklyn).

My dad used to drive in that parade.

It's so good to see Portsmouth favorably represented.

9. Yay, Portsmouth! I grew up in Newport News and went to college
in Norfolk. Glad to hear there were lots of people there. How many did your mom suspect turned out? I hope C-Span covered it. I've been watching today to see if they covered it, but I haven't seen it yet.
