a false doctrine. I say it's false because it's not Biblical and it's not part of early Christian doctrine so it wasn't taught by those who knew Jesus in his lifetime, so how can it be authentically Christian?

It's like all the attempts to calculate when The End will come. Jesus said we couldn't know but an awful lot of people keep trying to figure it out. Even at DU, we keep having threads about the AntiChrist. . . Revelation is a strange book but it was written about then-current events and about Heaven on Earth (the Church), not as prophecy.

Sadly, we're stuck with all the various I'm Gonna Be Saved But You're Not groups, folks who tend to ignore much of what Jesus said. (I'm not saying they're all hypocrites, though some are, but they're all ignoring parts of the Gospels that don't support what they choose to believe.)

Of course, if I'm wrong and the air suddenly fills with flying (and naked) fundies, I guess we're toast. However, we've all outlived several End of the World dates set by Jehovah's Witnesses, so I think the odds are on our side.

When Shrub started the "No Child LEFT BEHIND" crap, I didn't make the connection. I'm slow.

Later, when different news items popped off about the Fundie "Left Behind" phenomenon, the connections started creeping into my consciousness.

Today, at the Unknown Soldier ceremony, Shrub sez something like, "There's a tra-disssshhh-ssshhhunn ... in the military, that no soldier is ... LEFT BEHIND ... on the battlefield..."
