The United States Attorney General is the head of the Dept. of Justice and is the chief law enforcement officer of the United States government
The President, Cabinet Members, Congressman, Federal Judges, Supreme Court Justices, and other government employees, take an oath of office and swear to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States. Not doing so is cause for impeachment or discharge.
Today, several U.S. senators demanded he release copies of memos obtained by newspapers that showed that the Justice Dept. had offered justification to use torture of al Qaeda detainees if it were done in the name of national security.
Ashcroft Refused on the grounds that "We believe that to provide this kind of information would impair the ability of advice-giving in the executive branch."
Ashcroft also said that the international rules governing treatment of detainees did not apply to groups like al Qaeda since only countries are signatories to the treaty. Isn't the United States a signatory and bound to the terms of the Geneva Convention?
Sen. Joseph Biden, said the U.S. Congress had a right to ensure the administration was not abusing the Constitution or treaties.
Apparently Ascroft & Shrubco disagree.
Congress has the clear duty to bring impeachment charges against:
The Attorney General The Secretary of Defense The National Security Advisor The Secretary of State
Charges: Failing to uphold the Constitution of the Untied States. Violating the Geneva Conventions which the US is a signatory Contempt of Congress for deliberatly witholding evidence. Lets see how much more abuse the congress is willing to put up with.
