9/11 Commission Report: Milktoast
The story appeared on Yahoo News for a brief time today. First paragraph:

"AP: Sept. 11 Panel Draft Slams CIA, FBI

By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Draft portions of the Sept. 11 commission's final report offer a stinging rebuke of the FBI (news - web sites) and intelligence agencies but refrain from assigning blame to individuals in government to avoid the appearance of partisanship, several commissioners say. "

Sounds like there will be lots of detail in terms of fact-finding and there will be recommendations. These are probably the really important parts. But conclusions with respect to blame, veracity of witnesses, and some of the mysteries of 9/11 won't be in there. The article says that Commissioner want readers to draw their own conclusions.

While disappointing, it probably enhances the chances that the report will be acceptable to the most number of people, and therefore useful. What will really enrage me, and hopefully some of the Commissioners, is if the administration points to the report as proof of no wrong doing because it doesn't lay blame at its feet. If this happens I hope that individual Commissioners will feel duty-bound to point out some private conclusions and that the report doesn't contain them for political reasons.

I'm not that into blame (yes I am), however the administration seeking re election has run on how effective it is in the battle on terrorism. I think the truth before 9/11 (and even now) is that it was woefully lacking.

Question: WHEN DOES McCAIN'S IRAQ COMMISSION START?
