Audience at Academy of Motion Pictures gives Moore film standing ovation
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 05:09 AM by wyldwolf
Director Michael Moore's controversial anti-Iraq war film "Fahrenheit 9/11" won a standing ovation on Tuesday night from an audience of film industry professionals attending its West Coast debut at Academy Award headquarters.
After an audience of more than 600 people in the theater of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences cheered, whistled and laughed their way through the two-hour film, they jumped to their feet to give Moore a standing ovation as he took the stage.

Clearly buoyed by the reception, Moore, whose film is scathingly critical and mocking of President Bush, declared: "There has been a shift in this country. ... The average American is finally beginning to figure it out. We were duped (into invading Iraq)."

Moore told Reuters afterward that "Fahrenheit" would open in between 500 and 1,000 theaters on June 25, an amazingly high number for a documentary.

1. oh, how fabulous that it will be showing long before the election!
fan-TAS-tic!
ha ha, the Bush-lovers will give this lots of free publicity by brewing up a storm about it. can't wait to see it and just wish it'd come out on DVD/video early, for maximum exposure.

2. The worm has turned
The Academy includes the same vapid twits that booed Moore off the stage at the Oscars when he criticized Bush after 9/11. I wonder if the FCC crackdowns and visits from AssKKKroft's goons suggesting they put out more "appropriate" material has anything to do with their opinion shift.

3. Those vapid twits weren't in attendance
I think we can count on that one. There was only one table of loudmouthed twits at the awards, and their presence was magnified by the use of a shotgun mike that cut out the sounds of the cheers from the rest of the crowd.

These jerks stayed home because they would rather die than watch the truth about their little tin Jesus. The same type of intellectually bankrupt idolator will not be seeing this film in the theater for the same reason.

The people who will see this film are the ones who are apolitical but who have heard there was a lot of controversy around it and are curious.
