Is the security for the Dem Convention a cover for Bush the coward?
The feds have gone over the top with barbed wire fences and other security measures for the DNC. It seems to have little to do with actual concern for Kerry or Edwards or anybody else attending. I think that it's just to balance out the ridiculous amount of security Bush will use at his convention in NYC--and it's so extreme that it threatens to override the message of the event itself.

Kerry should have refused the security--but if he doesn't, he and Edwards should visibly downplay it by going into the streets and into the "free speech zones." They shouldn't let the RW con artists set the stage for their convention.

1. I was watching a news story about the security....
...and they showed the holding pens and all the rolls of barbed wire...and I recall saying to the person I was with that it looked like film clips of stuff you used to see only in foreign countries.

cover the chimp's ass. Those razor-wired pens were installed for one reason and one reason only -- to embarrass the shit out of the Dems. Americans have never heard of "free speech zones" before this. They'll get the impression this is a "Democrat Interment Camp" built to infringe on every protesting group - including God-fearing pro-life repukes. The whores will get a lot of mileage out of this, but will have no time at all to cover security measures in NYC - unless, of course, a riot breaks out - which will, of course, be blamed on the Dems.

3. This is so ironic
My son, who is currently reading Lakoff's book Moral Politics, brought up what I thought was an interesting observation on "free speech zones." (Lakoff's theory is that liberals prefer a loving-parent image of political leadership, and conservatives want a stern-parent approach.) In effect, conservatives put the disobedient children in "time-out" places, ignore them while they protest, and hope that when the children get tired and see they aren't getting anywhere, they'll shut up and won't bother the parents anymore.

By the way, there were some Bushites protesting across the street from the park where Edwards spoke today in Milwaukee, in full view of where the campaign buses drove in. Democrats can take a little protest without getting bent out of shape.
