So...where are all the Pro-Separation of Chuch & State Protesters?

This is where the Left keeps on getting our asses handed to us. When it comes to Church/State issues, the only people we see speaking for us are representatives from groups like American's United or the ACLU.

Why aren't we all lined up and getting as noisy as the Religious Right each and every time the Christian Right lines up for or against an issue?

I'm not pointing fingers here, but this is something that's been bothering me lately in my studies of the RR. It seems as if the Left just gives the media coverage right over to them, instead of standing out where they're protesting and counter-protesting, showing the rest of America that we're not all "commie atheists" or the like.

We need to put a face on the opposition to the RR, and lawyers and ACLU/AU reps won't do it.

(For all I know there are tons of Pro-Separation counter-protesters...you'd never know it from tv though. But the point in general is true from my past experience.)

3. So did a lot of other people who stood up for what they believe in
Like I said, no finger pointing, but after watching the Religious Right basically rule the airwaves in terms of coverage of the 10 Commandments situation, I think it's time for some of us to stop playing it safe when it comes to the RR.

The RR has it right -- it is about Civil Rights and they know the score. You gotta have the bodies out in public to change things. The problem is they're on the wrong side of the Civil Rights issue once again, even though the Civil Right to worship or not worship actually protects the RR too.

4. Two words
We. Won.

BTW, I happen to think the ACLU is a fantastic representative of those who value liberty and freedom over tyranny.

5. For one we still live in a Secular Republic.

Yes we at DU, and a pretty significant percentage of Americans, know that this idea is under assault but your average Dem/Liberal/Independant probably thinks 10 Commandment people are simply crazy and the Courts will make certain that they're just an anomoly.

Plus, believe it or not, there are PAID anti-Abortion/Anti-Atheist/Pro-Ten Commandment teams that travel America protesting all sorts of places.

How do I know this? I've met them, yep.

Here, at the "Godless March" in DC: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2002/11/01/MN215082.DTL

There were around 2,500-3,500 people that attended the first of it's kind "protest".

Generally speaking it was an "out of Towner" event with most coming from other states. The American Secular Humanists group played a big role as did American Atheists. That said there were several Liberal Christians there that were simply trying to express some solidarity against the Ashcroft Religious Fascist.

It was a mixed bag...Except for 40-60 anti-Godless March protestors. They arrived early, armed with well worn signs depicting Hell and burning corpses, and were fairly well behaved throughout the day (OK, at one point the horsey cops had to take away a bullhorn, sorry). I struck up a conversation with several of them and asked them why they were there. To protest the godless heathens! Sure I said, but where are you from? South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, et cetera. I asked them if them protested abortion clinics. Yes they did. Did they travel from event to event "protesting"? YES. For Jesus of course...

My guess? Many of the Alabama "protestors" are people that I've had a coffee with.

6. You raise a good point, but I'd like to raise another
If there was a counterprotest in Montgomery Alabama right now, I believe there would be bloodshed.

People are way too emotionally tied to that idol put up by Moore. Idolators cannot stand having their idols torn down.

7. a little rusty on my comandments but...
Isn’t this the kind of idolatry expressly forbidden by one of them there commandments? Isn't this the same kind of idolatry that inspired the reformation? You know the one that made so many of our religious folk leave the Catholic Church? Just asking.
