"DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The best spin doctors in Democratic politics worked overtime to hone a message from the party's convention and then make sure it resonated throughout the most contested states in the presidential campaign.

In the swing states of Iowa, Florida, West Virginia and New Mexico, the convention dominated the airwaves and news pages. John Kerry's people should be pleased.

"I think the Democrats did as well as they could have expected to do under current media circumstances," said Drake University political science professor Dennis Goldford. "The Democrats are getting a good ride."

In Iowa, the Des Moines Register - the state's largest newspaper - devoted virtually the entire front page to convention coverage each day."
